TMIC clarifications

Post by gt2.5turbo »

Alright I've searched around and I have a few questions to make sure i have all my facts strait:

I have a 93 turbo wagon and I want to use a wrx tmic

1) would it be easier to just get the td04 from a wrx so that the
stock ic piping would work? (i would imagine it would be)

2) if i do get the td04 would our stock uppipe work? (i believe it
would work from what ive gathered, i just wanted to
make sure i was purchase everything needed for this)

thanks for the help

1) You're kinda in the middle of things, if you use the td04 you need to adapt the compressor inlet, if you use the vf11 you need to adapt the compressor outlet.

2) Yes.

The stock WRX piping would not work anyway.

It's not long enough.

I have a 16g, whose outlet is at the same angle as the TD04, and the stock intercooler pipe had to be modified for it to work.

so since the ic piping isnt going to work anyway and there isnt much gain from the td04 so its not worth switching i should just deal with the ic piping mods and be done with it

The TD04 is a better turbo than stock. It's newer, more efficient at regularly visited boost levels (stock turbo guy made 246whp and 270lb-ft) seen after modding.

If you intend to make more than 12psi, it'd be worth it to use a turbo efficient in that range.

TD04's are cheap and have alot fewer miles than your stock turbo(depending  ). If you plan to swap to one of the larger VF series turbos, it'll bolt right in once you make the provisions to fit the TD04, unless of coarse you decide to go FMIC. :D It would still make it easier to do that, too.

I think you should just wait and do it all at once.

Hardy is right. No baby steps, you'll waste lots of money and time. Turbo and intercooler should be done at the same time.
