My new (old) motor is here! Yay! (56k beware)
I bought an EJ22T from mmauto.com on the 21st, finally got here today (I was at work).
Photos are here, taken at night (it was 10:30) so I did the best I could.
doesn't she look purdy? I don't think I was blessed with the exhaust manifold.
No matter, I'm going to have a custom one made to clear my crossmember.

Yeah it's got a little rust here and there, but nothing serious.
I pulled the plugs today, the electrode and sparking tip are clean, but the steel base of the plug nearest the electrode has an oily residue - there also looks to be oil on the exhaust manifold, lending what one might expect to be some previous blowby - or it could just be from the fact that the engine has been sitting for quite some time.
Anyway, regardless of that matter - there's a 101 day warranty against knocking, excessive smoking or oil consumption with the option for MM auto to repair, replace, or refund my costs.
Considering I'm over a thousand shipping miles away - chances are I'll just get my money refunded, it's the cheapest option for them.
That's if there's excessive consumption.
Engine has 81 grand on it, so I don't expect alot of problems.
Crank bolt is nice and tight with no signs of damage.
Pulled off the intake manifold - everything came off nice and smooth, no vacuum lines were cut at all - just some on the top-end were disconnected and plugged.
allright, so the plan is - my intake manifold on the EJ22 will go on the EJ22T for now, and it's getting dropped in the car next week to facilitate a good strong motor that I won't have to worry about (crank bolt has damaged the key and keyway on my current motor)
I'll save for the Link ECU, get a custom exhaust manifold done (or more than likely figure out a way to make my current exhaust manifold clear the engine crossmember), buy a use up-pipe and down-pipe, and get some custom 3" mandrel bent exhaut run to the rear tire area or something like that. I'm running straight pipes now and it's not a big deal as far as the sound is concerned.
Hopefully the turbo will be on the car in two months.

They didn't do a compression test because they couldn't crank the engine (no starter due to no transmission when they got the car)
I'm going to do a test next week, if it shows low, I'll call and see what I need to do then; I prefer to have a partial or full refund to afford the rebuild - but I downright refuse to pay for shipping to and back again ($175 one way)
I gave $400 for it, plus a $50 crating fee, plus $175 for shipping

Whats the compression look like?
The crossmember isnt really tht tuff, if you have access to some cutting tools and a welder.
Very nice that they capped everything off, looks very professional. Low miles too!
If you dont mind me askin, what cha pay for it?
I see what you've done there to your crossmember to get it to clear. I won't have the time/money/tools to do that kind of job myself - so I'm wondering if I can just get a custom manifold made to where the uppipe comes in behind the front passenger driveshaft, to the turbo, then goes back out in that same area. It looks like there's PLENTY of room, but I'm not sure about the clearance.

Cool, I won't let you know how much I just spent on mine cause I don't want you to come down and strangle me.
Mine had ALOT of oil on the turbo side. Don't know why, but maybe there was an oil leak with regards to the turbo.

Reddevil, Awaiting new heart, will it ever happen?

I know you got yours for something like $150 and all.
I wonder what the mileage difference is
Besides, there's VERY few subaru's around here. I'd be lucky as hell to even find one in a junkyard - much less a legacy sport sedan.
I feel I got a good deal, considering what else was out there.
I've taken a good look at the turbocharger, it's in excellent shape. No oil on the inside, doesn't look like there's been any seal failure, fins are in good shape and there's zero shaft play and it freewheels decently for having no oil in it.
All in all, was it worth the extra money I spent in comparison to your pick and pull? Sure. If I have any problems in the next three months with this motor, like if it throws a rod or starts to smoke/consume oil rapidly.. well, shouldn't be a problem getting my money back.

I was just bragging. Mine has 150k plus I think, someone stole the dash.
Where are you anyway?
I have the stock exhaust manifold and uppipe with ALL the bolts and plates and what not. To be honest, I am wanting a fair price, so I currently don't know what its market value it. I have to pay for a perfect power, and this is part of the price.
And all in all, congrats on getting a closed deck!

Yeah I prolly aught plug in my location.

Yeah, I did some work on the motor today and discovered what I couldn't see last night - I've got all the goodies, stock EJ22T manifold, up-pipe, plates, bolts, yada yada; the works.
I just know it won't clear the crossmember.
damn you subaru!
So I'm going to have a custom made manifold eventually.
Glad I got the closed deck, first big step towards better things

Yeah that thing is in excellent shape!! I spent a little more, and got one that was in no way near that condition. However I did get the entire wiring harness and other BS....
