tubes in rear fender? (near jack)

Post by rallysam »

The other day, I noticed that if you open the trunk, and reach in the fender where the jack is stored, and reach further in (moving towards the front of the car from the jack still inside the fender) there are a couple rubber tubes in there and a junction.

What do these tubes do? I think I got them reconnected properly, so it doesn't really matter, but I just thought it was curious.

I came across it while I was up to my arms in muck working on the soggy trunk syndrome. My Impreza got that once. You pull the jack out, find it wet (or rusty!), then you peer in and see 6" of standing water (slimy muddy algae water!!!) in the fender and/or in the spare tire well. FYI - if you ever get this syndrome, the trick is to look around the underside of the car and pull out various little rubber plugs to drain the water.

Yep, drain tubes. The second one on the drivers side (tees into the one coming down from the sunroof) is from the power antenna.

Bad tail light seals are often the cause of spare tire well aquariums.
