Motor mounts

Hey all, will EJ22 motor mounts mate up to my EJ22T? I have none to compare, however I can easily find motor mounts at the local JY for an N/A Legacy, Turbo Legacies are rare in my neck of the woods ... even more rare in the JY's.

My guess would be yes, 'cause I'd doubt Subaru to have made two different molds for 2.2L blocks

Anyway, thanks for any input!

All EJ motor mounts are the same.

Yes, they'll fit right up. But, so will mounts from a WRX, which can be cheaply bought fairly new and fairly cheaply from NASIOC members.

Great thanks guys! I had it pretty much figured out ... just needed some feedback.

Apparently OEM Turbo mounts are some sort of Gel filled, and N/A mounts are more standard rubber filled. I have always thought that rubber filled might be better than "gel". Are OEM WRX mounts gel or classic rubber "filled" ?

All 90-94 Legacy original mounts are gel-filled as best I know. When they get too old, you have the option of replacing them with plain rubber OEM mounts for a little bit more NVH and a lot less money...

WRX ones are all-rubber.

My motor doesnt move at all (ok, maybe a 1/2 ") cause I bolted the supercharger bradket to the sheetmetal. Maybe not the smartest thing to do, but I have yet to see any adverse affects.

I was at a rallycross last year and the safety guy used my engine as an example on how a motor shouldn't move, compared to a hilariously wobbly impreza.

adverse affects aren't immediate, but it's the same principal behind bending a spoon.

if you bend a spoon to an extreme angle, rapidly, without stopping, you'll break it alot faster than if you were to bend it slightly over a longer period of time.

the point is, the spoon will still break.

motor mounts are there for a reason, a motor bolted directly to the cross member may not break the crossmember, but it may break the bolts that hold the crossmember to the car.

I'm not saying you're stupid for what you've done, doug; I just don't want all of the impressionables out there to get the opinion that it's perfectly fine and nothing bad will come of it. There are no adverse short term effects, but over time you'll fatigue the sheetmetal where the bracket is because the motor is fighting it so it can twist on its mounts.

But also, the motor CAN move, just not alot. Just like better motor mounts. In theory.

The SC bracket hangs over the sheet metal on the passenger side where the anti-lock brake unit normally is. The bolt from the bracket to the sheetmetal is about 5" long. So there is plenty of flex when needed, in extreme circumstances. And also, the sheetmetal has some flex as well.

So to be clear, I DID NOT bolt the motor directly to the frame. Even I think thats a bad idea.

You can always look on e-Bay too. You should be able to find some at NASIOC and if not you can still make the stock ones stiffer. Scoobymods.com had a thread on how to do it a while back, just search their site and you will find it.

Got a great deal from John (scoobiedoo22) on a set of Motor and Tranny mounts off a WRX.

Looking forward to installing these, and props to John for a smooth transaction. Definately I guy I would do business with again soon!

All round motor mounts are the same, liquid filled. i thnk
Square ones are rubber only, i do believe.
Also, Turbo cars, the metal mount plate has an extra metal piece on it-an exhaust shield of some sort, and it is on the right and left both. That extra metal shield is not on non-turbo mount brackets.I had to put in some different mounts, and re-used my turbo brackets. but the mounts are the same as long as you had round, then get round again.

Also, I was able to get my used mounts for free. I found a really great shop here and they have a couple 5 gallon buckets of old mounts that they normally throw out. And they are good mounts. I did buy some other parts from them, so that is probably why they jut gave em to me.

My legacy has rubber mounts, and seeing that i have all the documentation from the previous owner, i know they haven't been replaced.

Just go and get some STI mounts like I did. I think I paid $70.

Interesting.

My 94 N/A AWD wagon has the round motor mounts, but the 93 N/A FWD wagon has the square ones. Both are original to each car as far as I know (I sure haven't replaced them). I'll put both of these cars back together with the same ones that came out (even though they have 180k+ each on them, they seem solid and not damaged at all)

You should be able to interchange mounts. The round ones are liquid filled and supposed to absorb more of the engine noise & vibration.
