Aston Martin's DB7

Post by dzx »

Anybody know anything about these? I ran into one tonight and it wasn't that impressive down low but holy shit did it have some topend. I couldn't really tell if he was kicking my butt since everytime i would slow down he would punch it but im pretty sure he was. Unfortunately the only light we caught, there was a car in the other lane. Which is too bad since it's been raining all day

Either supercharged 6 or V12 (later models). Same platform as the Jag XK8, which is a development of the old XJS.

DB9's a different animal - modern aluminum chassis based on the Vanquish.

Isn't the regular DB7 the blown 6, and the DB7 Vantage the V12?

Depends on the model.

The DB7 is good for a low 14 at a high 90, and is powered by the blown I6. Power is something like 340hp and 360lb-ft. They weigh a friggin ton though, like near 4000 pounds.

The DB7 Vantage and the Vantage Volante (convertable), with the V12, is good for mid 13's at 105-ish. Good for 400hp and 400 lb-ft, but a weight, again, near 4000 pounds.

It's the Vanquish you need to watch out for. It'll do the .25 in a tick under 13 at nearly 120. Those are good for like 450hp and 410lb-ft and 4000 pounds. DB9 is even more potent (80% of it's 420lb-ft is available at 1500 RPM), and kicks even more ass. And if your unlucky enough to ever run into a super-rare V8 Vantage, don't even bother trying to run. 600hp, 600lb-ft, Supercharged V8. It's not worth even trying unless it's raining.
2009 Outback 2.5XT. 5MT. Satin White Pearl.
2009 Impreza 2.5i Premium. Blue.

Well, unless you have a Lingenfelter Vette with Twin Turbos and 800 HP

The V8 Vantage is such a scary sick looking car you'd be a fool to try one anyway. I love those things. I've seen just about every variant of the V8 (even when it still had the old I6 as the DBS).

I think I'd be a little more afraid to see this pull up beside me.

Why? You KNOW corvettes are fast, and anything with a Lingenfelter badge is going to rock you.

But to see an Aston Martin. James Bond's favorite brand. A pinnacle of luxury and elegance. A car well known to have a lot of power to offset it's SUV towering weight. And to see an Aston Martin that pulls 12's, when most would expect it to pull CEO's. That's cool. 12's is ROLLIN. I don't think people REALLY realize just how fast a 12 second 1/4 REALLY is.

Would you be more impressed by getting beaten by a Viper, or by a Dodge Colt? I've never said "holy shit, an SRT10 just killed me." I, unfortunately, have said "Wow, that was a modded Turbo Colt"

I've always liked Astons as well as Maserati, which is sort of an Italian equivalent. Especially over Ferraris. I like GTs better than sports cars usually as I fel if you're gonna compromise real world ride quality, go all the way with something like a Caterham (or Elise). My favorite was sitting in an ex king of Belgium (I thinkit was Belgium) DB2 cabriolet.

Too bad Mr. Ligenfelter is passed.

Not denying that the Aston Martin is a friggin' cool vehicle. I really want the one from "Die Another Day." :D

However, you have to admit, the corvette has an aura to it that you can't quite compete with.

Agreed.

I drove a Corvette C6 at the GM Test-Drive at Disney last year. I was not impressed.

First off, I dunno where the 400hp is going, but it definitely doesn't seem to be making it to the rear wheels. The car is not slow, it's pretty fast. But it's not brutally fast like the hp rating would suggest. Although I know the Vette edges out the STi on paper, the STi feels a helluva lot faster.

The handling is good, but not world-class either. Of course, I've ridden in stripped VW Sciroccos with fully-done suspension and rudimentary roll-cages , but I still think it could feel more secure.

And the interior felt junkier new than my Legacy's does at 15 years old

I've got seat time in the C6 (both auto-X and street), and it's OK. Better on the street than on the course IMO. It just feels... bad. The car isn't big, but it feels HUGE.

Really cheap interior, and skip-shift is still in full enforcement.

The CTS-V, however, THAT was a fun car. That thing felt MUCH better than the Vette. And it's more along the GT lines.
