I got a FREE I/C

Post by Penguin »

This guy i know gave me a JDM EJ20 intercooler. With very light piping mods it will go right in-line with my non-i/c set up, I am talking like maybe 2 hours of work. Anybody have a guess on if i will notice a difference with out adjusting boost? I am gunna find out what my current stock air temp. is after the turbo, then put it on and turn up the boost till the temp is back to where it was when stock without the I/C.... I think it should help driveabilty, any guesses?

Stock boost control won't work through the intercooler. For a little while you may see some boost levels below stock but above wastegate, but it will most likely end up at wastegate level as the ECU gives up. So, you'll probably want to put a boost controller on there at the same time.

Vikash,

Why won't the stock bost control work through the intercooler?

It uses feedback from the pressure sensor to adjust duty cycles to achieve the desired boost pressure. In my experience, it's unable to do that with the pressure drop of the intercooler.

Mine seems to be doing okay through the V2 I've got installed. Its not quite what I was getting before, with the spring I've got on to control wastegate flutter, but its pretty close to 8 psi.

I dunno....

It's actually using the solenoid to get to 8 psi? It's not just the spring that's brought you there?

Hmmm... Now I'm not so sure. I'll pull it off and see what happens.
