Anyone know about the procedure for that?
If I wanted to bus down across the border, buy a car and drive it back home. Insurance, duties, registration, what do I have to do?
Importing a Sub from the US to Canada

OK here's what you have to do:
Find out what border station you are going across.
They will need a fax copy of the bill of sale and title AT LEAST 72 hours before you take it into Canada. ( this is for the US side to make sure that the car does not have any issues)
Then after the 72 hours, call the station and check to see if the car is cleared. If it is, drive it to the station and go inside. They will check out the car and confirm the VIN numbers. Then they will stamp your title as being exported from the US. Then you go to the Canada side and pay all the GSt and PST shit.

Thread Jacking:
What About the opposite?
I'd like to maybe get a n/a Legacy that is not so far from me, but it is in Canada, and I am in the US.
I know there are some Canadian 1st gen Legacies in the states here, does anyone here have some Subaru specific stories about the ease or difficulty of importing one?
I've "Googled" around a bit on subject of importing cars to the US from Canada, and it seems like it could possibly be more work thn it's worth, but I still am holding on to some hope.
I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experiences to share on the subject.

OK, as for taking a car from Canada into the US
If the car is less than 20 years old, you will have to get a letter from the manufacturer that states the car complies with EPA and DOT requirements.
Then sadly, because the car was made in Japan, you end up paying Duty on it. ( around 2-3%)
