5MT N/A tranny shifting problem

Post by Project_Legacy »

for some reason, sometimes my second gear does not want to go in at all. if it is forced in, it would get stuck in and be hard to take back out. after awhile it will go away but comes back at other times. its really annoying. someone had told me that it was probably the shifter linkage. anyone else have any problems like this? i tried to search but i couldnt find anything. thanks for any help guys.

Could be a bent shift fork. Ever have a hard time getting into/out of 1st?

nope. the only problem i ever had was 2nd gear. other times when its working normal, it would seem like there was no problem at all! no weird noises, except sometimes when i shift it sounds like a spring.... could that be the problem? im really new to manual transmissions... :?

Yeah mine is kinda the same but it won't get stuck but some times it will grind in slightly higher rpms and some times it is just fine. It is pretty frustrating.

hmm. mine doesnt grind... but yea its really annoying. it just wont go in at all. a friend of mine says my cable clutch seems a little loose. could that cause the problem? but then again i get into any other gear normally.

How far does you clutch pedal go in before it engages? Should only go maybe 1/2". This may make a difference.

How old is your clutch?

Did you replace everything? Flywheel (or at least resurface this), pressure plate, disk, throwout bearing? Bearing in the flywheel?
