I am going to try to go though this quickly. I used to own a 1992 Turbo Legacy Sedan for 5 years worked great and never left me stranded. Sold it to my girlfriend and after about 6 months of driving, it stops running like a top. Rough idle, no power, occasional extreme lean once the motor warms up.
After an exhaustive search I have narrowed it down to a fueling issue for the #3 cyl I think, by doing the long screwdriver to the ear trick I can hear the injectors clicking on 1,2 and 4 but nothing on #3. I have so far replaced the computer from a 1994 turbo sedan, and switched the #3 and #4 injectors no help.
What I would like to know is there anything else in between the injector and the computer like another controller of some sort? If so where is it located and what does it do? If not then I would assume that there is something wrong with the harness. If that is the case how is the wire ran? does anyone know where these particular wires go? Can anyone send me a copy of the fsm pages that detail that portion of the harness? and if I do find a break in a portion of the harness can I rewire that one portion with a similar spec wire from an auto parts store? And what about the plug to the injector, is it a universial type of plug or is it specific to just subaru injectors?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Jay

Have you tried unplugging the connector for that injector to see if the car runs worse? If it does run worse, the problem isn't the injector. From your description about running worse when warmed up. I'd suspect the coolant temp sensor.

Hey Josh.
Thanks for the link.
Yes I have unplugged the connector and it didn't change a thing. Also I already replaced the coolant temp sensor/ ignitor/ coil/ plugs/ and wires to make sure it wasnt an ignition issue and I have spark to all 4 cyls (thought it might have been in the ignition because when i pulled the plug wire it didn't change anything either from 3).
It also runs terrible when both cold and warm. I just know it runs very lean when it's warm because thats when the o2 sensor warms up and my air/fuel gauge begins to work.
I am open to any other ideas anyone may have. I am going to try to trace the injector wires tonight.
Thanks again
Jay

Definately--We use is 93 even though it costs an arm and a leg in the Legacy and the Audi ... Don't care a whole lot about our Montero so we let that gulp 87.
