Anyway, this stupid move had exposed some of the bare metal underneath the paint, which quickly began rusting on the surface. I figured I had better find a way to seal it back up before the rust got through to the back of the panel, thereby deeming it worthless.
I found some stuff at Advance that is basically primer, but will also convert rust into primer to be painted, indicating that it's working by turning black. I took a wire brush to the area and scrubbed all the surface rust out from the little holes in the paint, and scuffed the paint around it to help the primer stick. This is what it looked like after the primer:

I let it sit overnight, and sanded it lightly the next day, and then sprayed 3 coats of Dupli-Color paint on it, also from Advance. Yes I know it's nowhere near a perfect match. I don't care and I'll explain why at the end:

After removing the newspaper:

I only did this to seal off the exposed metal from the elements so it wouldn't rust. I hope to get the car a better-than-new paint job once I get out of college, and its sole purpose right now is transportation, so I don't give a rat's ass what it looks like.
But yeah, I think the results speak for themselves. If you need bodywork done, I'm not your guy!
