The gc trades weight and wheelbase for weight distribution and roominess. The wrx has pretty similar weight distro to the GC, the weight of a BC, and a darn stiff chassis. If i bought a wrx, i wouldnt monkey with it much, they're pretty good cars and only need a little tweaking to be really fun. I really hate how high you sit in them though, enough for it to be my last choice.
In regards to kelly's comments about the GC, i think that the extra length of the BC tames the power a bit compared to the GC. Both cars are soft as shite though.
the gt-b clone idea sucks from a performance perspective. A wagon has the balance of a sedan with a sandbag sitting on the trunk. I think it will feel like a poseur subluxury car all the way through, especially after having been completely disassembled.
I would swap to a gc myself, i enjoy the work and it doesnt take a lot of power to make the little car fun.
I'd swap to a BC if i had turbo luv and wanted to have to dump more change into the engine to compensate for the weight
Id get a wrx if i just wanted my troubles to be over and enjoy a nice subaru.
what would be a better use of my time and money

the GT-B wagon idea is just for fun because they are bad ass looking wagons. if i did that it would be the family hauler. so it wouldn't be totally performance oriented.scottzg wrote:the gt-b clone idea sucks from a performance perspective. imagine a 99 legacy GT wagon w/the perfomance to back up the looks.
dark gray(anthracite or something like that) w/black windows and nice 17 inch wheels w/a mild drop in ride height.

from a "fun to drive" perspective this is where i am leaning. it will be so much easier to find a rust free GC.scottzg wrote: I would swap to a gc myself, i enjoy the work and it doesnt take a lot of power to make the little car fun.

the idea of replacing the rear 1/4 panel w/new pieces is odly intriguing in a masochistic kind of way.

but it is a pretty good ballpark. bob's car was a PGT car very recently so i would imagine it isnt too much off from stock.JasonGrahn wrote:too many variables in rally trim.
What are the stock car weights and balances?
EDIT: DO NOT ANSWER that question. I'm starting a new thread.
and a new thread would be fine. although all this talk is helping me make a decision so it is on topic. sort of.

Variables: What seats? What diameter tubing? what wall thickness? How many feet of cage? how much underbody protection? What suspension? what accessories in-car? etc, etc.

oh here is what i know about all the cars.
bc legacy has horible chassis flex and is not stiff at all. should weigh about the same as a gd. and is 4 inches longer wheelbase than a gd.
gc imprezza is the stiffest of all subaru chassis built in the last 15 years from fhi. this gleaned from jacking up all three chassis. the bc and gd will flex a bunch beofre the rear wheel will come off the ground when jacking from the front jack point, while the gc will have the both wheels come up from the get go.
the gc is 2 inches longer than the gd.
the weight difference is pretty major. a stock gc, light weight version (brighton or other non power anything models) with a ver 8 swap stock will out run a tuned sr55 powered sti. about a low 12's stright line car.
if you can find a gc in sutiable shape for a swap go right ahead. i havent been able to find one for ages.

The reason it's so easy to get both wheels up with the GC is that it has the worst weight distribution. The GD chassis is much, much stiffer than the GC or BC.azn2nr wrote:gc imprezza is the stiffest of all subaru chassis built in the last 15 years from fhi. this gleaned from jacking up all three chassis. the bc and gd will flex a bunch beofre the rear wheel will come off the ground when jacking from the front jack point, while the gc will have the both wheels come up from the get go.
