Post by Kcwiro »

Hey I have a 2.2 99 legacy sedan that is making a kind if sqweeking noise when it is at idle...I know the engine chriping is normal but I don't think this is that...

Anyway when the car is idling the noise is there but if I press on the clutch pedel just a hair the sound goes away comes back when I release i take my foot off... not sure what to lube / check / whatever give me a hand boys and girls.

the throwout bearing is not loaded at idle and would act opposite what you have if bad. so it could be an input shaft bearing on your tranny

you may have to learn to live with this one

Wait, isn't that how a bad throw-out bearing acts?

I suspect throw out bearing.

Get a 2-3' section of garden hose and put it up against the tranny. You WILL hear something. Then have a buddy press in the clutch.

Now do this over and over on different areas and you should pinpoint the area of the squeak.

Dollar to a donut its the throwout bearing. But also check your tranny fluid.

yes it is possible for the throwout bearing to make noise in neutral with the clutch not depressed. But it usually won't shut up when the clitch is pressed. That's when the throwout bearing is doing its job and is most likely to make noise

noise that shuts up completely the instant the clutch is pressed is more likely to be a pilot bearing or the input shaft bearings in the tranny. Under no load those bearings are spinning freely and are thus free to whine and rattle if worn
