Just been reading the (few) old threads about the Autronics SMC ECU. Seems like a really good way to get more power out of our engines without getting too dirty.
The threads seem to be about 2-3 years old. Is this still the best route to go? My goal is 250HP, it seems like I can get there with just the ECU and the MDS ignition. Is there a less expensive, or easier route? How hard is it to tune without the dyno?
A guy named Dave is mentioned, presumably somewhere in the northwest, who installs and tunes these things for $1000. Is he still doing it? Where is he?
etc.

I'm not sure what is best myself, but since those posts, there has been some piggyback systems like emanage and perfect power that have been cheap ways of getting things done well. Kelley, with perfection motorsports, sells a couple different ecu's as well. He had a lof of luck with the autronics, and ended up developing his own ecu which has benefits over the autronics. Any stand alone ecu will be spendy I believe. I do think the autronic was a nicely priced one from what I've heard.
I'm not sure about the Dave guy you mentioned.
