faulty speed sensor?

Post by mikem »

My speedometer will sometimes not work - but usually only for short periods - and whilst it is not working the cruise control will drop out. I am assuming that it is a speed sensor which is cutting in and out. Has anyone had experience of this sort of intermittant fault before and know whether it is fixable - or whether I just need to pay for a new sensor and fit it.

The sensor is built into the speedometer, so I think you need to check the cable.

Maybe the cable is not seated properly in the back of the gauge cluster, or maybe it's going bad. I think there's a part of the cable that's easier to replace and is more likely to go bad or something. Try searching for "speedo* cable" or something.
