I began on this mod today, finally. Sawzall'd the bottom of the "100% spillproof" mug off with much care (care not to take my fingers off!), came off pretty straight. Small scratches from where the blade holder vibrated against the mug. I'm going to now go find thin nuts to thread onto the fittings I have purchased, as well as some proper washers. My friend's going to bring his hole saw set home from work so we can get some exact sized holes. We plan to only use hi-temp epoxy as sealer, instead of the actual support for the fittings.

Unfortunately it will be two weeks before I will really have any more time to put into it, before then I will have the washers and nuts and epoxy ready to go, and then I will take photos and post a full parts list of what it took to do this solid-like, including the longer hose to the canister. I can't wait to get rid of that damn resonator. It's mocking me.

Caps Lock. Laurel is going to have a shit fit over the spelling and grammar too, but that aside, I don't know why you guys are saying no performance gain.

I noticed a gain in throttle response over the stock peice. When it's cold, I can hear my DV a lot better than when it's warm outside.

This makes me wonder about intake resonance due to the different materials, plastic vs. aluminum piping. Just as a geek, I wonder what theoretical difference it would make to the intake pulses.

Steve, just as you say, the differences would be purely theoretical. There is a chance that the resonance is changed thanks to the Snorkus or the Coffee Mug, but all that goes to shit as soon as the air hits the impeller. In fact, any time the car is on boost, resonance has exactly zero effect on intake charge. Think about it, you've got a big ass fan actively sucking air through the intake. Any disturbance would be bypassed just by the sheer volume of the air passing through the bits and peices. Off-Boost, the air is still running into a steel wall that is the impeller. It's the same theory that acts against the idea of sequential twin turbos.

I found a mug, and than when i went to take out the resonator.. It was filled with what looked like motor oil and water?! a good Inches worth in the bottom. i emptied it out and ran the car a 'tank's' worth (~170miles) and there did seem to be more oil splattered in the hose from the turbo to resonator ., anyone have any clue to what that's from!? i'm not leaking oil i don't think, it's been at a very steady level for a while.

Well, the PCV system dumps back into the intake tract, so a good bit of blowby could be making its way into your intake that way.

What do you mean in your sig by "FWD switch"?

On turbo legacies there is a spot for a fuse to switch the car to front wheel drive, also I know of a guy in Denver that has his newer imprezza running only front wheel on a temporary transmission. They dropped a sti block and a t3/t4 garrett turbo kit into it. Final compression ratio about 8.8:1. They were still working on it when i last saw it but were trying to make about 550 whp i do believe. Guy still has my automatic transmission from my swap and changed his number... :x anyway, sorry to ramble

I know all about the FWD fuse, but why are you using it? It's not very good for anything.

it's on all auto AWD or FT4WD subarus not just t-legs. But yes, you're bound to damage the MPT Clutch system if you leave that in.

heh, i only use it in the winter... It lets me lock the rear only via e-brake, instead of all four. I don't ever leave it on, it's only on for a brief second to lock the rear. Thanks i'll definetly look at that hose. I'm think about replacing all (most) anyway, they got cracked pretty bad when i took them off, that can't be a good sign.

Wow, I never thought anyone would buy a Subaru to use AWD in good weather, and FWD when you need AWD.

Is there an advantage to having the e-brake lock just the rear? Or are you just doing it so you can do slides and drifts in the snow?

AWD isnt just for bad weather :) Also how would the e-brake not lock just the rear?

Ya all i really used it for was to get it sideways a little easier.

If i don't have it in FWD, it will lock all 4. I have the 4eat and what ends up happeneing is i'll hit the e-brake and the tranny will click loud (Not Good Click :!: ) than all four lock up. I don't know if it is supposed to lock the rear only, but in my 93 all four lock up through the tranny.

Why not just leave it in AWD, and not hit the e-brake? Then you aren't hurting anything.

that's because the MPT clutch is thinking the front wheels are slipping (since the rears are moving slower), and so it tries to send more power to the rear and by you effectively stopping the rear wheels it is just burning up the clutch pack.

it's not like i do it all the time, that's just one of the little mods i've done to the legacy. I don't really burn anything up with it in FWD and than using e-brake.. the only thing i'm worried about is the electronics, but since the fwd switch is basically a 15w fuse. The worst that could happen (besides a crash) is the fuse will blow, because i'm putting a fuse in and out while the car is on.

Thawa- exactly, one of my friends ( one which doens't ride shotgun anymore) pulled the e-brake on pavement, the rear was locked and it felt like only one of the front was locked- it slid to the right... smelled bad ( not tire either ). Other than that i can't really tell on snow if all four do lock up, i don't really want to find out.

I dont think you understand what's completely going on. Putting the fuse in puts duty solenoid C at 100% duty. That'd be like having your turbo fully spooled from the time you start the car to the time you kill it. Sure you say cool, full boost at 700 rpms. But how long do you think your turbo would last like that?

ah, i thought it wasn't too good. Thanks for the info, when i found out the car could go in fwd i thought it would be a good idea. i pry won't install it back in for this winter, my car is having enough problems as is... boost leak, it bogs something fierce ~ 3k rpm, and burns liquids. It was just a wannabe clutch pedal

Thought I'd post in here instead of starting a whole new.

I'm officially muggified! It makes the intake noise much louder and I like it a lot. The DV is a lot louder too. Throttle response seemed a bit better and I somehow got a whole psi of additional boost without touching my MBC.

Special thanks to Vikash!

I'm going to have a glass piece made for this. A friend is going to craft me a custom piece to go in that will be made of glass with yellow and blue. It might be pretty intereting to see the results. The glass is fairly thick so it may provide some muffling while also eliminating the intake restriction.
