What is the easiest way to get the axles out of the rear diff?

6 mm punch to knock out the axle pins.

Whoops should've explained myself better. Already done that. It is the outer end I want to know.

Don't pull the outer out unless you have to. Pull off the lateral links and maybe the trailing arm (dunno for sure, been a while). Then move the axle out of the way. Least that's how I'd do it. If you have to remove the axle from the outer portion also either pop off the center cap or take the wheel off, then remove the axle nut. I think you still have to remove the lateral links anyway.

I ended up taking the long bolt that holds the two control arms together with the hub.
