Alternator/battery problem?

Post by DeusExMachina »

I'm pretty sure its the alt and/or the battery, but I like confirmation.

Today I notice my car is kinda having trouble cranking the engine. But it catches immedately, but the starter is doing the slow-chugging motion, like my battery is dead. If it took anymore than once to crank, the car wouldn't start.

Anyway, I'm at a stop light tonight and I'm thinking my gauge cluster is dimmer than usual.

I'm driving home, I put my turn signal on, my head unit cuts out. And turns on. And cuts out. To the rhythm of the turn signal??

I get home and leave the car in accessory. The head unit is doing the same on/off/on/off thing.

I start the car up again (from the starter, it seems barely) and check voltages.

With A/C, headlights on - 11.4V
With A/C off, headlights on - 13.3V
Car off - 12.5V

Any ideas?

Oh and I installed fog lamps a few days ago.

Stereo has been in for half a year, 1000w amp with 12" sub...300w front speaker amp, Eclipse head unit.

Probably need new alt and battery, but why is it "okay" with the A/C off and not when its on?
