strong gas smell

Post by Flip_x »

Hey i talked about a while back that my car had a really strong smell of gas.

well i found were it was coming from. its from the cyl that is close to the ABS pump, so number 1. anyways when i changed the spark plug, the boot of the cable was wet with gas. so i took out the spark plug and it was wet with more gas, so i tryed to dry out the most i could with a towel, the smell went away for a few days and now its back just as strong, any ideas what could cause this? crappy plug wires?

anyways thanks

Fuel Rod leak? Gas coming out of spark plugs is rather uncommon.

Yeah, fuel rail or a bad injector, even a leaky spark plug shouldn't have that much gas present.

is there anyway it could force it through the spark plug? i'll check the fuel rails tommorow when there is light.

i know the car can get better gas mileage and this problem isnt helping.... gas is over 3 dollars here

yes a leaky spark plug sounds silly but I've seen it, the ceramic can crack through, usually due to faulty wrench work

just change it and see if it helps
