Muffler suggestions

Post by 91White-T »

I finally got pulled over for my ridiculously loud exhaust last night, so now I need to throw a muffler on there... I was thinkin 2.5" glasspack since they cost $15 and are straight through. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Do you weld? If so, pick up a quality aftermarket muffler like a magnaflo or some such. You'll have to weld in custom piping, and it may not be "tuned" like an expensive exahust (a good V-8 muffler probably doesn't present that much of a restriction anyway) BUT it will be quiet (a good low rumble) and cheaper than a full on aftermarket exhaust. A $15 glasspack will sound like crap, not last very long (it's not packed with quality materials) and will be made of crappy mild steel. This is just my opinion though, take it as such.

I love the way a glasspack sounds on my 1.8L EA81. I'd give that a try first. Refresh my memory... are you running any cats?

I just bought a 2.5" cherry bomb "TURBO" muffler, It seemed a little better quality than the glasspacks and was pretty cheap. I'm running no cats and a 2.5" turboback.

I've got a Dynomax "turbo" muffler...its straight through as well.

It sounds amazing! It has a nice low rumble from the start and begins screaming performance when you get to higher rmp's. In addition, it doesnt scream so loud that you attract the police.

Very nice muffler. I highly recommend it.

What does the Dynomax sound like on a Sube? Back in high school all the rich kids we used to torment had Mustang 5-point-slows their parents bought them and nearly without exception were equipped with Dynomax mufflers. Couldn't hear the engine, but the exhaust was relatively loud (of course the 5.0 was nowhere near as weak as a 4.6 Cobra I drove). I laugh when I think of Dynomax ever since, but I'm sure on a different car they may not sound bad. I just wouldn't want to explain it if I ran into any old friends. :)
