With 300 you should be able to get yourself a good little setup. I would personally go to a Best Buy and see what kind of deals they are offering. When I got a new head unit they gave me 80 dollars credit for two new speakers. So for 140 I had a head unit and two new rear speakers. I put in new fronts and left it at that and have been plenty happy. That was my route.

You should be able to get yourself an okay setup, definitely not bad though. I spent $200 on speakers alone though, so I'm probably not the person to ask about stereo components.

Try some really foamy interior cleaner(such as prestone foaming interior cleaner), a pen, and a couple rags(old t-shirts work well for this)

in my car i have 2 12" subs powered by a 1000-watt amp. i have a basic middle-of-the-line deck and one step up from stock speakers. everything is kenwood i got it all from best buy for $550 in a package including the sub box, but that was before the $100 4-gauge amp kit. and i had to have them custom-make an insert for my dash because 91's have a different setup and normal dash kits won't work. you'll need a wire harness kit to hook up your deck, too. overall, i have amazing sound quality. my car shakes inside and out, you can hear it inside houses, and i can be heard up to 3 blocks away from outside. i have a really hard time listening to normal car stereos now. i don't know how i managed before i got my setup. it friggin rocks!

so basically, if you just want a little boom, a 10" sub should have some kick. my setup ended up being $700, but you can find a sub for $80, an amp for $100, a deck for $100, and some cheap speakers (better than stock) for $30/pair. but you will need the amp kit and they're rarely cheap. good luck! i hope i have helped.

I rock infinity kappas all arround and it hits hard with only 6.5"s and it is incredibly crisp, especially on the highs. I have an infinity 12" sub if you're interested. But you can get new kappas 6.5's on ebay for a good price, i think they retail for like $140 a pair, but dont quote me on that, i havent looked at the proces in a while.

My diamond 6.5" front components w/ cheap-ass panasonic rear speakers sound amazing off of deck power. Given, they don't have alot of low end, but that's what a sub's for. I've heard these speakers amplified, and wow. They're so clear! I'm very excited for my stereo to go in.
