Leaving the World of Legacies

Post by fireytom »

Well I'm sorry to report that I think I'm going to have to leave the world of BC ownership. After finding out that an EJ22T swap is gonna cost me upwards of $5000 to complete  , I've decided to stop pursuing Legacy performance. I think I'm going to move in to the world of the Nissan 240sx, unless you all can suggest a better car that I can affordably modify or for that matter make suggestions for a cheaper way to do the swap.

5000!?

What!? The parts alone including a tranny are only 2000 at the most! Holy Hell!

I think you need to find a new parts supplier.

I would definitely NOT suggest a 240sx thats for sure. Ever since everyone and their cousin thinks that they're mad JDM driftaz yo 240sx have become rediculously expensive, and the only ones you can find are beat to shit. Not to mention that if you think a 22T swap is hard/expensive take a look at SR20DET prices....

you could find a SS for less than that and you wouldnt have to build anything.

my SS was 2,000. you should be able to find a decent SS for less than 5.

To rebuild and do things "right" 5k is about right. I'm at a little over 6k right now. I did replace some other items, and a/c compressor so you could take a grand or two off my price. It'll probably be around 7k when I'm all said and done with the intercooler.

I would also say that you'd be better off getting a whole car. For under 5k you could probably get an SS that was in good condition.

Yeah I thought it over more thoroughly and realised that even without an engine swap, I love my leggy too much to get rid of it. I will definitley have to look into purchasing an SS and just ripping out the engine seeing as my LS looks like I want it to and I would have to repaint the SS, etc etc. Well anyway, thanks again for snappin me back into reality.

Agreed 100%. No shit, there are no less than TWENTY SR20-swapped 240's running around Orlando. If you got into the game now, you'd pay the price for being a latecomer in the latest fad. Plus, you can't exactly get SR20DET parts anywhere you want...

Why don't you just buy an SS and put the same accesories on it that you have on your car now.

Which would be less work?:

Swaping crossmember, engine, wiring, electronics, exhaust

or

Bolting on aftermarket goodies to new car

Well...

Post by fireytom »

Mainly its the fact that my car has been painted black, the AC was juct converted, new clutch, and new CV's all around, plus there are only 53,000 miles on the actual car.
My car is a 1990 Legacy LS.

I say buy a SS, should be easy to find for under 5k and just switch out what you might need from your LS.
Besides a 240 isn't nearly as much fun in the snow as a legacy ;)
