EJ22 n/a Power??

Post by ej221994legacy »

hi i am posting for maybie my third time. i have been lurking in the shadows for a bit and i havn't found a post referring to this subject yet. i know this is a stupid question but i will tell you what i am gonna do with the car.

1. i will be looking for the most streetable prep. possible.

2. i have 5k to blow on an n/a bottom end i have.

is there a company that sells maybie forged internal modification? and is there any kind of big power mods possible, i am looking for 11's without loosing the streetability. i dont care if it has an eratic idle.

is there a nitrous oxide kit that will gain 50? to 75hp? i am trying to stay away from forced induction! i know i have 5k but i am trying to use it to awe and amaze the honda guys when i turn over times that make camaro's get a little uneasy.

if anyone has a helpful suggestion on how to build up an N/A subaru 2.2 from 1994 please help me out on finding parts, when i get it built i will get pics up for ya'all to see.

subie fan forever,

ben

p.s. some might recognize my SN from my last post about parting out my car, nobody offered enough money for the parts on it and i gained a car from my grandmother that went into nursing home care. so when i sell the car i will be in for some bad ass mods to go real fast.

thanx for your help.

 oops i forgot one thing, is there a set of heads off a 2.2 or 2.5 or even 2.0 heads that fit and create a higher flow through the motor.

Just curious, why n/a?

Subaru and the aftermarket makes all the parts necessary to get a really really fast turbo car

They dont make n/a cars that are fast- there is no subaru engine with enough displacement. The possible exceptions to this are the h6-3.0 and the svx. Neither of these engines will get you in to the 11s either, and both will require some incredible modification and upset the balance of the car.

on the other hand, i think they both bolt to your tranny...

oh yea, and to get a n/a car in to the 11s, it will probably be none too streetable

5k to spend? Buy a junked turbo car, swap the engine in, have head work done before installation, get a larger turbo and a good intercooler.

Thats what Im doing to my 90 NA wagon. Then get your own engine management and continue from there. I think NA engines are a waste of money for the performance you get.

You'll need custom cams made. You'll need a major port and polish on your heads. You'll also probably just need to throw some turbo engine internals in there. Headers are a definite must. Then you'll need stand-alone engine management. Then you'll have to tune for hours upon hours till you perfect your air-fuel curves. You'll also have to take into account the humidity, temperature, etc... on track days when you are going for low times. And the right muffler is a must to have the correct amount of back-pressure. You'll probably get into higher rate springs for your valves and such.

Also, the best engine would definitely be the 2.5 that was put in the Impreza RS's. I've heard of those guys running 14's, maybe high 13's. Check out a site like hotrod.com to see what all the tricks you can do to a NA engine. Orrrrrr... I guess you could run the 2.5 crank and bore your cylinders out to get the 2.6L+ that's possible with the turbo block, don't know about the NA.

And by the way... take a trip to the local dragstrip. Watch every car that pulls an 11 or a low 12. See what they have done to their engines. I'll bet you that 90% of them are supercharged high-displacement engines. Not that it can't be done, but you'll need a whole lot more than 5k to get there. You could also easily get a nitrous system that would add 400+ horse... but you'd have to see the most your engine could take even with a rebuilt bottom end.

Conclusion: I'd spend that 5k running a different crank and boring it out to 2.6L if your bent on NA. After that go for flow (p+p, headers, exhaust, etc...)

Custom fuel injection with a variable length velocity stack over each cylinder. Internals from turbo, maybe closed or semi-closed deck block for high RPM, compression. Larger displacement (though I'd keep it oversquare for high RPM). JDM 4.44 final drive or lower geared transmission. Variable valve timing from JDM with custom cam grinds for N/A. Strip the car down and replace the glass with Lexan. Remove everything you don't need (what 5 lug nuts per wheel!?). Marry some woman who's a complete genius with engine mgt programming (though I haven't been able to find one, so good luck). Maybe you could adapt the variable back pressure muffler from the H6 Outback, too. I thought of this myself as I prefer the driveability and simplicity of N/A, but it's just too much. You could make one pretty fast, but I doubt get 11 sec. or be able to use pump gas. N/A Hondas pulling those kind of #'s are going to be a lot more than $5K to build and their parts are way cheaper.

I'm sure that you could pick up a 11 second NA motorcycle for $5000. :D :D
