Legacy twin turbo restricted

Post by adeonfire »

After owning my legacy just over a week ,decided to go and have a play last night.Went out on the dual carriageway and a volvo T5 estate pulled up behind me and flashed his lights.
I hit the POWER button and pulled away from him with ease. However when i hit 112mph the car hit the restrictor.Any idea's how to remove this annoying feature.

HKS and GReddy both sell speed limiter removers for BG5's. Check out your local speed shop they should be able to get it for you.

Is yours really a TT? IIRC, Twin Turbos only came on EJ20s.. meaning, the limiter removal chip wouldn't work, as BG5s are EJ22s, even overseas, right?

Have been informed by Roger Clarke motorsport, that i will need the original 180 kmh speedo so it can be converted to mph and will allow me to fit a restrictor. Mine has a mph speedo that goes up to 112 mph,but reads in kmh. Have tried several breakers, but most have only got electrical speedo's ,not cable driven like most 94 twin turbos. I welcome any suggestions as to where i can pick up a 180 kmh clock face.

Corsair, the way the twin turbo works is when you accellerate above 2000 rpm the smaller turbo comes in to play. When you hit 4000 rpm the second turbo comes in, giving low lag and a big boost in power. If your driving along at 60 mph and want to overtake, you can use the ' kickdown ', or the power button which allows both turbo's to operate immediatley. Same as when your at traffic lights,by pressing the power button both turbos come into play from standstill, resulting in 72mph in 2nd gear.

that's not a twin, that's a sequential.

there's a difference between the term 'twin turbo' and 'sequential turbo'

what you explained is a sequential turbo setup, twin turbo sets run both turbos all the time.

if the 'power' button is located on the transmission gear selector (or near it) this is just a function to control when the transmission changes gears at (in power mode, they would change at higher rpms instead of lower for power, not economy)

traditionally, sequential system setups are run on vaccum and cannot be interfered with due to the precise nature of which they must operate (IE: slapping that power button in 5th gear at 100mph could cause the smaller turbo to overspool; plus it would be out of it's power band)

I thought he had a button somewhere that he'd press and get like instant horsepower like teh nawzz or something, not like the power light on our autotragic transmissions. Nevermind.

If he's over in england with one of the old TT, then yes, I think it was called a twin turbo, even though it may have ran sequentially. The pictures of the EJ20TT setups definately include two turbos of different size.

The power button, as I understood it, is not the same as the 'power' button on an AT.

And to answer your original question Adeonfire, I don't know :).

Hi everyone, my car is a 1994 japanese import.Because of the speed laws in japan the car is restricted to 112 mph (180kmh).
When it arrived in this country the 180kmh clock face was removed, and a mph clock face was fitted. However although when i am driving along i can see what speed i am doing, the miles are clocking up in kmh(117632 kmh),not 72,000 miles.

I have the original handbook(chinese) which 1 of my staff translated for me,and it states that it is a 2 stage twin turbo, meaning that the turbo,s operate at different stages depending on rpm, load.A more detailed explanation can be found at

http://www.nebbs.com/legacy/index.html

Thanks for all the input lads
