Ciper quantify "too big". Simply stating that doesn't help anyone. If the overall diameter is similar and the tire/wheel combined weight is same or less than stock, you can go as big as you want without sacrificing any perfomance. You just have to live with the harsh ride and increased risk of bending a rim.

I think ciper was speaking from an aesthetic point of view.

Bigger rims with lower-profile tires will result in a better cornering feel at the expense of added weight, harsher ride, and greater danger to the rims. Throw cosmetic preferences into the mix, and everyone has his or her own favored choice.

As for the looks, I think almost any rims will look good on our car... once it's lowered

As for the handling, I think the factory steelies with some really grippy tires would probably be best. vrg3 is right that the rims will give better handling feel but probably won't give any more actual grip thanks to the added weight...

He lists Eibach's and GR2s as mods on the site he linked to. I can't really tell by the pic, but it seems that he's already lowered it.

Just read the website, and.... forget about doing headers and all that stuff if ever plan on going turbo because you will have to replace all of that stuff anyways. And the oil-cooler is definitely a good idea on the auto tranny.

And about the side wheel discussion. Read my post again carefully, specifically what I said about weight. They are expensive, but you can get 17's that weigh 15 lbs a piece. Plus putting on sticky tires that are 195/60R15 or whatever the stock size is not the best route. First off, you can't get high performance tires in that size. Second, there is something called sidewall flex or roll-over, real tall squishy side-walls inhibit handling. Don't let opinon skew the view. Keeping stock rubber because it's lightest is only good for straight line acceleration due to rotational mass.

the steelies are also the best for offroad- nothing to damage, and some sidewall flex is your friend, esp. when landing.

As for the rims, i think a general rule applies- roundy lookin rims for boxy cars, boxy rims for roundy cars. You have some boxy rims on a boxy car, and it just doesnt seem right. That could just be my jealousy talking though

Brat4by4: "you can go as big as you want without sacrificing any perfomance" I dont agree. Even if the tire weight combo of the 17 inch wheel is equal to the 15 inch wheel the amount of energy needed to change the speed is considerably more.

Besides, going sideways into a one inch change in height (like where the asphalt meets the concrete) will peel the tire right of the rim. Or worse it will contact the rim and cause damage, possibly to the suspension as well.

Looks good Tom. The limo tint looks awesome with the red. Your engine is beautiful. I used to clean mine weekly before I went back to college. Now I drive on the dirty interstates too often to keep it even resembling clean. Yours looks very nice.

That's not exactly what I was saying... It can actually improve cornering as well, because if the sidewall flexes less than the contact patch stays well-formed longer.

The added weight is more of an issue with respect to acceleration since it involves rotational inertia as well as mass.

I guess the wheels also rub me the wrong way because better wheels can be had for the price, they are the wrong offset and are used by many ri_ers

I only wonder, did Cyphermax choose these wheels because the EVO in 2 Fast 2 Furios used them?

42mm offset isnt correct anyways, even 48 is pushing it.

I dont get it, the Rota Battle in 17x7.5 are lighter, cheaper, wider PLUS they are 48mm offset! A significantly better wheel in every way.

Many subaru owners use them, they are proven. Styling is similar to the Motegis as well:

Can someone give a counter argument why the Motegi are a better choice over the Rota's?

Those were the rims I had, the Rota Battles, however, mine were gun metal not the better-looking silver pictured...

I think Rota makes a fantastic rim. They're pretty good lookin, they are quite light, and they're a reasonable price.

However, watch your tire choice. I had Nitto NT450's and they were probably heavier than the rims. I guess it was a harder compound or something. Anyway, I'd-a probably been happier with Kuhmos or Toyos or something like that...
