I will soon be the proud new owner of a legacy touring wagon

Post by SuperRallyRoo »

Wednesday when I get paid I get my hands on a sweet maroon turbo legacy wagon with a bad transmission. I am so happy right now I hope no one tries to outbuy it from under me. Someone already looked at it after me but sense I was first and the timing couldn't be more perfect... Cause he has to go to Elensburg sp? to get the title. And I don't get paid till wednesday. Anyway wow i'm frikin excited. I need a wagon really bad. It needs a MT swap because the automatic is toast. Can anyone help me out? Anyone got a legacy n/a or better yet turbo parts car with a good 5mt?

Just bought almost everything I need for the swap... n/a 4.111 tranny, crossmember for it, driveshaft... Someone changed the tranny on this legacy with an automatic 4.111 tranny so I didn't bother taking the diff. (Does anyone see that as a possible issue?) I took the speedo cable because it looks different, the starter, all the linkage, the pedal setup, (Do I need to change the gas pedal? I haven't really looked at the wagon's setup...) I am probably going to buy a chormoly flywheel and exedy clutch. I haven't yet totally removed the automatic but I had troubles trying to remove the downpipe... One of the studs in the turbo went snap!!! What do I do with that!? If I try to remove the turbo and more bolts/studs snap am I going to have to buy a new turbo and stuff? I can tell from being under the car I need to do a front main seal and I have never done that on my own. :( eck

Front main seal isnt too difficult but you should replace the oil pump o-ring at the same time.

Hey Kelly, not gonna cage the wagon... That woud be sweet though hehe. I just got new agx struts on my rally car. OMG what a difference. wheew! How do I even remove the turbo? I'm turbo stupid, never had to work on a turbo before so I have no idea how to remove stuff like the housing from it and replace the propeller?

I'm actually thinking I might as well upgrade the turbo a little bit though. Whats a good upgrade thats kinda cheap? Ideally I want a intercooler BOV and better turbo and be pushing about 200-220hp. And I wanna spend less then $800.00 on that stuff. Is that possible? Lol

Matt, If you wanna stop by the shop sometime, I'll show you how the turbo comes off. You should be able to do a turbo, and intercooler for 800, maybe a bit more, but its gonna take some huntin down of parts on the uber cheap.

Update!

Post by SuperRallyRoo »

Well after ALOT of pain and money the tranny is finally in the car. What some of you may not know is I managed to drop the 4EAT on my hand and it went through it. It slipped off the jack and the back part where the drive shaft goes into is what did it. 30 stitches and 3 1/2 weeks later my hand is almost looking normal again! I can't close my fist and I still have some fleshy stuff sticking out where my webbing is. Never bled that much or that fast in my intire life!!! Blood was just shooting out of my hand it was fantastic. Anyway I got a lightweight flywheel and RS clutch and pressure plate. N/A 4.11 5mt. While I was at it I took the turbo off replaced the broken exhaust stud that was stuck in the turbo, new turbo gaskets and replaced the lower coolant line going to the the turbo.
I still have to tighten the bolts for the turbo, put the speedo cable in, tranny cross memeber, driveshaft, connect the axles fill the tranny with oil and do the wiring. And it should start! The engine seems really leaky and oily undernieth I should probably replace the front main seal, oil pump seals and valve cover gaskets. But I'll wait till I get the car on the road.

IT LIVES!!!!!! I had to go by the pictures of the wiring harness adapter. I had trouble with the explination. But I redid it and at about 8:15pm dark as hell outside it fired up I even have back up lights! YAY if only I didn't have to go to a rally sunday I would probably be able to work on it tomorrow. I work tomorrow :/
