EJ 22t heads

Post by bmxpunk »

So I blew my head gasket. I disassembled the heads today and saw "22B" stamped inside the head under the rocker cover.

What gives?

Any body ported these heads and have pictures.

Ask NICO I WRX U. He's the one, IIRC, that has pnp heads.. Although, I highly doubt he's got pics. Canucks don't like to prove things. :P

tris91ricer i have factory heads on my ej22t, i do have port an polished heads. how am i going to take a pic if i rebuilt my motor about 3 years ago, when i blow a piston and have to rebuild the motor agian i will take a pic just for you.

port an polish is worth it all the way on our factory heads. it free's up so much power and smooth reving right up to 260kms.

the factory heads got 22b stamed on them, where i have 6 sets in my garage i am going to check them out right now.

I was just wondering about pictures, thought someone might be weird like me and chronicle everything I do to my car for reference later.

THe 22b is stamped in the head underneath the cams and rocker covers. I will take a picture. (be week before I can get it on here)

Must be a coincidence. The real 22B heads are DOHC and are no joke. Best flowing Subaru heads, second to the V7 Spec-C heads. If you had those, you'd know it.

Yeah I knew they werent the 22b heads. I just wondered why they said it. I really would love to put some JDM dohc heads on the thing. Just looking at pictures of Matt's RS-RA heads, you can see how incredibly small these valves are.

I don't know what the 22b designation is for but when I was looking for EJ22Ts from yards, they always gave an engine code that ended in 22b. Like this: #300-91122B

22B is hexadecimal for 555, the tobacco company that sponsored the Subaru WRC team for years. When they made the STi 22B model, they gave it that designation as a sort of salute to the company.

As far as the stamping in heads, I have no idea.

type 555 into the calculator built into windows (switch it to scientific view fiorst)and then convert it to hex and you will get 22b.

I should have been clearer.

I meant about the tobacco stuff.

I know 555 = 22b in hex.

He's not joking about the 555. I think the last picture up in the top left corner was of the 555 Legacy. I didn't know that's why they named the 22b but Subaru and 555 used to be good pals from what I understand.

Why would the 555 tobacco sponsor thing surprise or anger you?

I know that there is a lot of hate for the tobacco industry as of late but think of all the sponsorship money they have poured into motor sports. Without 555 Subaru probably wouldn't have the long rally heritage that it does and we wouldn't be blessed with such wonderful vehicles.

I say salute 555.

that is crazy 555 22b thing, so our cars must be the first made 22b motors, then they made a upgrade with the dohc to make more power.

so ej22t motors are 22b but we didnt get badged that becuse imprezas didnt come with the ej22t motor in north america.

so does it make my 95 impreza L sedan a impreza 22b becuse i put everything from a turbo legacy ej22t in it? one thing i might add, i own a basic model of fthe imprezas and it reads 220kms on my speedo from factory thats what my legacy read to, but all the 2.5motor cars all read only 180kms.

1995 subaru impreza 22b sedan.

If that's true, they also moved the thrust bearing and some other upgrades.

I think 555 never sold anything in the US, just overseas. If you're trying to get a pack, I'd try googling it. Seems online stores sell them.

And also, how have you never heard of the 555 connection to Subaru before? Ricers are usually concerned with car graphics. :P

Hey are you mocking me?? Do you really think they were planning the 22B in 1995 (or 1993 for that matter)? Hey NIco if its not a secret or anything, or if you even know, were your exhasut ports enlarged? I keep hearing about this "step thing," and that your not supposed to enlarge the exhaust port. I wonder if its really supposed to be " the exhaust port shouldn't be any larger than XX" "

Hey, is it better to have the intake side "rifled" or perfectly smooth?
