I now have rust on 3/4 wheel wells. I have to get out the grinder, body putty and primer again before it gets cold.

I have rust issues in three places, soon to be 2 places, because I'm using the Bondo Fiberglass Repair kit on one of them (tailgate). The other two are the two opposing rear fenderwells, just in that spot where the rear bumper bolts up and touches the body along the top of the wheelwell. Dunno what to do....is your problem the same?

Yep thats it! I don't have it on the front (plastic bumpers) but on both sides on the back. Failing of Subarus....guess Japan doesn't have problems with rust like the northern US...

Well, it's not necessarily that...apparently it is the way they were made in the factory. The pinches (sheet metal) were not covered in by paint in the factory (or the cover wears off), so they have a tendency to rust out.

well, all I meant is that they didn't really have a problem with it in the Japan models, so it was ignored until later (probably not a problem, post-95 or 96) so they didn't do anything more to prevent rust. So you're using bondo filler to fix it up? I'll have to think about that, I really don't know how deep the rust is

I got a few little spots I need to fix.

I just hit the spot on my roof w/ bondo. Now it's time to hit the spot on my driver's door and on the rear fender.

the problem w/the rear 1/4 panel rust is that rockes get in between the sheet metal and the bumper and start the process.

one other problem is the little plastic bits they put over the dogleg of the rear door opening down by the rocker panel.
it jsut never gets to dry out and rocks and crap get stuck in ther too.

the other trouble area is the bottoms of the doors. the dran holes get plugged and dont dry out ever and eat the door away.

^^ War on rust..not quite conquered yet. I still have a spot to Bondo up. If you ever need any help, let me know. I'll also tell you what color that is in case you have Sandstone like mine and need something that matches (note, it doesn't match perfectly, but from the right angle it does, and it will match eventually).

I need to figure out how to colormatch mine. I found a spraycan at Wal-Mart called "Midnight Blue" that claims to be OEM paint and it looks close (darker than the color I already tried, which was too light, and it has the right "luster" to it) but I'm not sure...I'll have to paint something with my bottle of touchup and see if its okay. I also have to find a fender color (Outback two tone) if I decide to battle the fenders.

There are places online that match to your car's specifics based on VIN. However, it's costly @ $11 a can or so...
