rubbing noise

Post by Euphman06 »

I seem to have a newly developed rubbing type noise coming from one of my front tires. It makes sort of a flopping noise rhythmically since it speeds up when I go faster and slows down when.. well you get the point. THe tires are new, there are no flat spots or anything. What could this be?

swap your front and rear wheels and see if the noise moves, too

you may have a defective tire with a delamination

I really don't think its a tire problem. The sound is almost metallic.. kinda like a faint squeal, its hard to explain really.

Check to see that the backing plates behind the rotors aren't too close. This happens relatively frequently.

how would i go about checking those? remember this isnt a continuous squeal, its very rhythmic like something is rubbing at one spot only.

Look between the rotor and backing plate. Use a screwdriver to pry it away if it's closer than 1.4". This problem will be a rythmic scraping.

I got the problem fixed.. you wouldn't guess what it was... The hubcap. Yeah I was just as astounded. Crazy thing, I took it off and no more noise, put it back on and it did it twice as bad. Put some WD-40 on the rim, and no more squeak.. crazy stuff.
