Post by poseidon1787 »

i pulled the automatic tranny from my 91 legacy front wheel drive, i want to put a manual tranny in, i know i need a manual ecu, but does it matter if i use one from and AWD legacy or legacy wagon? and also will the tranny from a wagon work?? will an AWD tranny work, i dont wanna install the AWD but can i just leave the back half of the tranny disconnected or?????

AWD trannys have provisions for the rear diff and driveline, if you do that you should probably convert to AWD because your tranny will be trying to send power back there and you'll have nothing to send it to

any manual mated to an EJ series motor should work, wagon, or sedan, I don't think you need a manual ECU, you just need to yank out the TCU, I think

I believe there is some sort of connector or something like that to tell the ECU that you have an auto or manual. There are others here that definately know.

If you have both transmissions (AWD and FWD), you can just swap the transfer case off the AWD tranny for the part that is on the other one. If you just throw in the AWD tranny, you'll fry the viscous coupling in no time flat.

You don't need a manual ECU. You can modify the MT/AT identifier pin.

there is a mt/at pin on the ecu its pin 20 on the 22 pin connector blk/wht wire you should just need to cut it if you dont you will get a check engine light for the IAC cuz the auto send a voltage reference to it so your will be all out of wack if you dont cut it i learned the hard way and it drove me nuts other than that the conversion is pretty much bolt in i got mine done in a weekend.
