I will be going FMIC soon too. I'm looking at an APS core though.

How big is that thing? Is that a WRX pipe kit? Will it fit under the bumper?

Sweet! [best winey voice] I want a FMIC too[/best winey voice] .

Are you going to use silicon couplers to attach all those pipes together or are you going to Tig some of them together? Silicon=expensive.

That will be dope when you get it all plumbed in!

i'm not sure of the exact size of it.. but i know it came off a WRX. i dont think its going to fit on the bumper so i'm going to have to do a little hacking... but its okay for me, my bumpers already fubared  I'm going to try to find some silicone couplers first... and if they end up being to expensive i might buy a few and get some pipes welded... i'll have too see when i do it.

Nice. That looks more like a new bumper than a FMIC or at least it will be :) I'd like big FMIC but I think I'll stay with my AWIC untill I max it out. Unless I find a really good deal....
I think we would all like to see some pics of all the dirty work involved in the install. So take lots of pics.

i hope you got a sazall (sp). thats a huge core. mines long but not as tall. not as tall at all. i hope it will be sufficent tho. it goes in this week (crossing my fingers on that one) its perfectly sized so i dont have to cut the beam.

phill. aps cores are the size of elephants, and not too cheap either. i have high doubts of one fitting under our realitivly short bumper covers, even without a beam.

Your definately gonna be cutting away a lot. I spent 4 hrs with a reciprocating saw to get my front mount to fit. Next morning my wrist was locked up and popping everytime i moved it.

Jason - Yea, I know. But they are so dope! They make a TON of cores though, so I could adapt something. I want to know how easily yours fits in. What size was yours again, and what guy did you get it off of?

I think I can figure out the APS core designed for the GC WRX. Or even an EVO core, and run the pipes APS style from underneath.

Ebay has a lot of silicone for not to expensive.

I'm going to slip join all of my pipes and then weld some of them and silicone others, using flex hoses for everything. Slipping them will reduce the potential for weld slag, which is going to be a good thing. I'm going to position my BOV to vent right out of one of the "fog light" locations. I am going to do this because I saw it on a Supra, and I thought it was badass :).

http://www.bakerprecision.com/silicone.htm

They have innexpensive straight lengths which would be pretty good. They sell them by the foot and it comes to like 20 bucks a foot, cheaper than SAMCO. You can buy 4 foot sticks of smaller diameter stuff (2.25") on e-bay for like 30 bucks for 4 feet. I'll probably get all of my couplers from e-bay. I saw some that were rated to 500 degrees.

sir you are a genious. im gonna tell the guy thats building my pipes about that. though he is a great welder and problay wont have weld slag.

my ic fits perfectly after some coersing by slege hammer. the only reason why i had to do that was because of the accident where i neglected to get it fixed properly. i dont have to cut the beam at all. its also good because it wont have extreme pressure drop.

i dont know what other cores aps makes but when i thing aps i thing bigger than anyone needs. and though i am no expert on the subject a tube and fin is a tube and fin and a bar and plate is a bar and plate. no mater who makes it.

Yea, my mechanic taught me that trick. My current turbo-IC pipe is slip jointed and welded.

Plus, you can slip join them, and not weld them but use a silicone coupler over the joint. This will seal it, but allow some movement in the joints, and reduce the turbulence (I think).

Do you have any pictures yet? What size is your core? Where did you get it? Do you have any flow specs on it?

I want a picture with the bumper on the car!

got some more pictures.... this thing is gunna take out my whole front bumper  i am thinking about doing the 2.5RS front bumper conversion instead of cutting up my current bumper, but if i cant scrounge up the money, 1/2 of the front bumper is going bye-bye lol.

dont wory jake. you just wont have a beam between the 2 mouning points. the bumpercover is an easy fix.

im gettin pipes as soon as the turbo goes in. but thats creating a whole mess of problems some if wich are in the turbo forum. one that i didnt mention is the vac lines wont go into the new turbo and the one that came off the compressor was so brittle it turned to dust as soon as i took it off.

the pic in the gallery is the closest thing i have to a pic of it mounted. its somewhere around 5x30x2.5. you dont have to cut anything to mount it (maybe the bumpercover but probaly only on mine) and i got it on ebay. or johnnyracecar.com. he used to make them custom but now hes doin production style. their tube and fin. some of the larger ones have been proven to suport 300hp

nope, i'm still in FMIC limbo....lol i sold this core to todd (-k-) and i bought a Greddy FMIC kit for a WRX, and i attempted to put it in with my 5speed and removal of abs and stuff, but it just hit so much other stuff that i decided it wasnt worth it. so then a guy came to the shop with some blitz FMIC pipes (i was kickin myself in the butt for selling the core) and i traded a spare BOV for them. so now i have 2 sets of pipes and a core, so i'm taking it to a local shop to make it all work (i'm tired of fucking with it). only ATM its been put on the back-burner for my 2.35ltr stroker setup (forged or billet rods/ forged pistons, Liberty RS heads, phase 1 2.5 crank, etc) so once i get that all sorted out, the FMIC and probably a Perfect Power or some other tuning device will fall into place :D

ooo sounds like a lot of fun. Curious though what is the diameter of those pipes?

both please. the reason i ask is that I work for a ford stealership and there are often alot of scraps laying around, piping for the turbo diesels is all over the place. I plan to use a turbo diesel intercooler (cut in half) and those pipes if they arent too big, which I think they will be.
