Aftermarket Headlights

Does anyone know of an aftermarket headlight that will fit on to a 91 Subaru Legacy? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Which are you asking about? Headlight, or headlight cover?

There aren't any aftermarket headlights that'll bolt right up... One board member (evolutionmovement) has made housings for a very nice set of Hella 90mm aftermarket headlights and is using them on his car. You can search for his thread on the subject for more info on that.

Otherwise a set of quality bulbs (I hear good things about the Sylvania Xtravision, and bad things about silverstars) and running the lights with good relays might help, or you could just get some aux driving lights.

people I talk to like the Silverstars. Although I've heard of problems with the wiring harnesses shorting with silverstars in them, for some reason. New harness, and no problems anymore

People may like the Sylvania Silverstars, but they don't perform well.

because they're "too white" ? I hear they suck in rain.

Well, because they're blue-tinted, yes, which causes lots of problems, including, yes, suckiness in rain.

Yeh, the silverstars really suck in the rain or any kind of moisture. I'll probably change mine out soon.

my farkin' xtravisions lasted one year, then popped as if in unison within one week of one another, the last after dark right before departing for a 600 mile road trip

that's sucky service life if you ask me, but I do drive with the headlights on 100% of the time.

Yeah, they do have a shorter life span than regular bulbs. That's part of the tradeoff for greater luminance.

Silverstars have even shorter life spans, actually.

When one headlight bulb pops, it's usually a good idea to replace both -- the other can't be far behind.

They do make long-life bulbs, too... they just have really lousy output. A lot of OEMs use them for cars they'll have to warranty.

yeah, I'd rather take HO bulbs and have to replace them, then not be able to see at night. I guess Xtravisions are the best compromise..
