All the front seals

Post by ars14 »

Hey all

Any one have a list and a vendor to buy all the seals that I should replace it I am going to remove the timing cover for an oil leak.

I would be nice if someone sold a kit of all the seals that one would need to get the job done

oh the joys of a 11 year old car

Goto http://www.1stsubaruparts.com and go into the catalog for Subarus and get the overhaul gasket set.

I don't know what is in the overhaul kit, but it may be a little more then what you want to spend.

I'd suggest the front cam seals, crank seal, rear cam seal, grommets on the valve covers, & oil filler neck tube o-ring.

Also, if you want to do the preventative maintenance, I'd suggest doing the timing belt, removing the oil pump, and replacing the o-ring between it & the block. Also, you can check the screws that hold the backing plate onto the oil pump. They sometimes come loose.

www.subarugenuineparts.com is probably one of the cheapest online dealers. I've been very happy with them as well as 1st subaru.

Check the part # thread in the stuff you need to know forum for specific part #'s.

well I just bought the cam, shaft, oil filler tube o ring (didnt have oine to begin with), and the o rings for oil pump, lets hope it gets all the oilleaks stopped,

on another note, what would make the drive pully rub into the timing belt cover ?
Thx

You can.....try cleaning it off with brake cleaner and putting it back on.

The rubber helps keep dirt and junk out of the timing belt area. It's not critical to the engine's running though.

Thanks Josh

I got the cam seals in this evening, the crank seal will be here tomorrow. All the seals and the o rings were so brittle that , they cracked off instead of sliding out, i had a bitch with the pass cam seal, I burred the edge of the the head, but i smoothed it down with a file.
I will just use some rtv on the timing cover to keep those areas clean

anything else i should be doing that I am not?

oh i did get all the dash lights replaced, the hvac controls in and a new blower, should driving next week

later
