I purchased a new knock sensor for my '92 turbo Legacy. The Haynes manual mentions removing the intake to remove and install the knock sensor. Does the intake have to be removed to install the knock sensor? TIA

Only one bolt holds it to the block. Its just a matter of being able to reach it. If you can reach it without taking the intake off then dont take it off. Its as simple as that.

It was no problem at all. I used a long extension to get to the bolt. Took about 10 min. to remove and install.
The torque sepc. calls for 14 ft.lbs. My torque wrench doesn't set at that low of a setting so I used the in.lbs torque wrench. I torqued the knock sensor at 168in.lbs..
Is this the proper setting?
Thanks for the fast replys.

I didn't even use a torque wrench on mine.
I don't understand why the Haynes said you would have to remove the intake manifold. It also said that coolant would spill out of it when it was removed.
Damn Haynes
Edit:I did some math and 14ft-lbs equals 168in-lbs.
So you're right on the money...

Yeah, stoopid Haynes manual.
They also said you have to remove the power steering pulley to take off the pump. They failed to notice that the pulley has holes in it that line up perfectly to allow you to remove the mounting bolts through the pulley.
