EJ20TT upgrade

Post by EJ20TT »

I have a EJ20TT engine and i have been told it is better to convert it to a single turbo setup.Just wondering if aney one has done this and what are the gains of doing this.I am going to run a Haltech ECU so the original ECU will not be used at all.I was going to set the turbo's in paralel to iliminate the use of solinoids to turbo's so they cut in at the same time but have been told the smaller turbo will over speed.
Conclusion to goto 1 larger turbo like a VF34.
Question is would this be a better setup for peformance or are people teling me to do this for eas of setup.

Thank you
Jason

How does the solenoid work currently? Does it bipass the second turbo until certain RPM, Boost Level? Once it cuts in the second turbo does it bipass the first turbo? Are the turbos equel in size?

If the turbos are equel in size and the solenoid cuts in the second turbo along with leaving the first turbo active then there shouldn't be any negative effect from simply closing the wastegate of both turbos from the get go. I really can't see any negative effect from this.

If the secondary turbo kicks in then the primary is vented then I bet you could benefit from a secondary turbo thats a little larger in size.

Not 100% shure how it works as the engine has just been put in the engine bay yesterday and i have not yet started the motor. The ownly thing that i can see is that at a sertan boost there is a valve on the exhaust housing of the 2nd turbo that will open, and also one on the I/C runnerthat im guesing will open shortly after or at the same time. There dose not look like there is aney valves on the 1st turbo so im guesing that this turbo will be constantly on boost and dose not stop working when the 2nd turbo is activated.I have been told that the tubo's are diferent in size but they look the same.I will have to take the turbo's off to have a good look and see what numbers are stamped on them.
I have also been told the 1st turbo will over speed if they are not setup in sequential mode.Dont no why when the 1st turbo looks like it would run full time aney way.
Aney ideas???

Thanx

Oh and one other thing the ownly thig that i can tell the diference between the 2 turbo's is the wastgate size.On the 2nd one the wastgate is larger with a hevyer spring load.So im guesing this is how the 1st one dies out at hier RPM and psi.

Try rs liberty forums. We didnt get TTs in N. America so we have no idea what you're talking about. They could probably be of more help to you over there.
