The final necessary component is on it's way
In other news, I've finally settled on a place for the motherboard and harddrive. They're going to go into the empty cavity in the dash behind the LCD screen.
I'm going to have to do some escher-esque arrangements to get it all to fit and still be accessible for plugging things in, taking out the HD etc, but it seems like it should all fit.

wow, I didn't know you were using touch screen. That's really awesome
Are you still going to do the gamepad idea for the steering wheel?

I've never gotten a BSOD while using XP. If you have, I'd blame your hardware.

Eh, havent had a single crash yet.
It's barely running XP. It's stripped down to bare essentials, and using Centrafuse as the shell instead of explorer.
I need XP because Linux is pretty flakey with the Epia processors, not to mention all the other freaky-deaky hardware that's in this thing. Also for the hibernation ability, and the fact that almost all the touchscreen interfaces are designed for windows

Windows, as a simple system is not bad at all, its when you add this, that, and every little feature, program, etc, that it gets buggy. He should do fine with the barebones version, as long as his programs that he uses are well-written...

Ok so I have it all secured and hidden now. It's still temporary til I figure out how to get it installed in the dash, but at least it's not visible.
And a blurry night shot of the new front end I'm using (Centrafuse)

That's awesome. I took my stereo out recently to clean it and realized that an LCD would fit in the space quite nicely.
Here's a sweet carPC in an evo, if you haven't seen it:

Unfortunally the 8" screens won't fit in our dash opening. You'd have to fab a whole new center console.
Also, at that price, I'm willing to bet they are made of recycled LCD screens = bad

It's just a suggestion seeing how it has all the stuff you need (touchscreen, USB, VGA) built in.

Alright I've begun what may end up being the final casing. Using the same roofing foam I got to make my speaker gaskets, I've just been layering it, with holes cut to fit the components
It should keep the harddrive fairly free from vibration, while allowing lots of surface area for cooling.

How are you turning that thing on? Are you setting off the jumpers or do you have an actual switch made?
