Hello all...
Surprisingly enough...I've never changed the spark plugs as they were fresh denso iridiums...but its finally time. I'm pretty sure...that a 94 jdm legacy gt with EJ20G turbo uses the same plugs as are engine...I guess I'll know for sure when I take them off, but I'm might have a shop do it as I'm short for time these days, so it would be nice to have the parts ready...Anyways, is I correct? same as EJ22T?
As an afterthought...I think I might have my mechanic take care of this, as I am having him pull my valve covers anyway, something beyond my abilities. As they are such a pain to get at with the quad cam engine taking up so much room, what should I get for longevity's sake? Denso's iriduims? ngk still?
thanks

Bueller....anyone?
Someone has to be able to tell me that the 94 JDM EJ20G will take the same plugs as our engine...they don't even have to be right...
thanks

I'm pretty sure it does take the same plugs. I remember talk of NGK BKR6E-11 plugs being good plugs for Liberty RSes, which is probably more similar to the EJ20G than the EJ22T.
Do you have the original EJ20G coil-on-plug ignition system or was it converted to coil pack?

thanks vrg3...
I'm using the stock legacy turbo coilpack system...but with a diamond coilpack from an NA legacy...on a JDM legacy GT turbo EJ20G...so short answer no coil on plug anymore. All my engine managment is stock legacy turbo. I should ask the guy I bought the car from why he ditched the SAFC...and why he put it on in the first place.
thanks

I would assume he put the SAFC on originally to try to compensate for the fact that the engine management is all wrong. :) The ECU is meant for an EJ22T, and it's meant to drive 360cc injectors. It would naturally get some stuff wrong, so the SAFC was probably meant to compensate somewhat.
Where is the coil pack mounted? Do you have an EJ22 intake manifold? Because I thought the EJ20G manifold didn't have a mounting spot for the coil pack.

Oh man vrg3...you busted me!
Your correct, it doesn't have a place for the coilpack, and mine is 'wicked'
gheeeetttooooo rigged, strapped to the intake manifold with wire. I am working on rigging up a mount that screws into the intake manifold, but I might have problems with hood clearance. At least I finally got a diamond coil pack in it. I'd like to figure out a better engine managment system, but I need a whole lot of different things...gauges, lots of gauges, lights, things that beep...front seats...four points...a paintjob...engine and tranny mounts....a valve lifter cleaned, etc.
how tricky is a SAFC install?
thanks

with where the ECU is.....it makes it A LOT more difficult compared to the newer OBD2 cars where the ECU is under the passenger carpet.czo79 wrote:how tricky is a SAFC install?

You are so right about that, Legacy777. I actually tried to install a S-AFC on my car last year, but the wiring diagram given to me by the previous owner had the sensors all mixed up and I fried the display on the thing, making it a $150 dash ornament!
But I was able to rewire the thing properly . . . just need to find another used S-AFC.
