I believe that my 180k 91 SS needs a new fuel pump, so I went to my local U pull it. I found that they drop the fuel tank, so it's kinda rare to find a fuel pump in there. They had a '98 2.5L Outback, and its fuel pump was lying on the ground behind it, so I picked it up for the $7 or so. Could I actually use it in my SS? Would it flow enough when on boost?
I'd have to swap the actual parts off the assembly as the hose connections are bent on the Outback unit.
I just figured that I better find out if it even works in there before tearing everything apart.

I've got a used SS fuel pump if you're interested.

crap. Oh well, at least it was cheap
Any chance that I would be able to use it to get by for a while off boost?
And, how much were you guys looking to get for your used SS pumps? I don't have much right now, but in a week or two I get my last paycheck from my seasonal job, and I'll have a little bit to get a used one.

Yeah, you can get away with it if you stay off boost.
Unhook the wastegate actuator rod and use some baling wire to lock the flapper in the open position if you want to make sure you don't go on boost.
Or even just disconnect the pressure sensor, so your ECU will cut fuel to prevent boost. That's probably unfriendly to the engine though.

yeah, I've been trying to get the actuator rod unhooked for a while now, and I can't quite figure out how to get it off.
Now, I just realized that I should have asked this long ago, but every now and then I go to start it, and it'll crank like hell but never turn over. It also does it when I've been driving a while, shut it off then try to restart it. Could that actually be the coolant temp sensor or something other than the fuel pump? I've found that it usually happens when either the car is warm or it's hot out, and it never shuts off on me while driving.

I think there's a C-clip or something holding it on.
At the very least, you can take a short piece of 1/4" hose and connect the wastegate actuator straight to the compressor outlet so you'll be limited to wastegate boost.
That problem does kinda sound like the coolant temperature sensor.

Yeah, there's a c-clip. Just take a small flat head screwdriver and hook one of the sides.
I'd second the coolant temp sensor.
Pm'd you about the pump.
