EJ20G ignition question

Post by Imprezive »

I recently bought a 91' SS with an EJ20G in it. The coil pack is just sitting on top of the engine where you might see it on a stock EJ22T.

Does anybody have any idea where to remount the coilpack so I can close the hood all the way?

I thought the ej20g was a coil-on-plug setup?

Yes it is. But somehow this guy switched it to have it separate like on USDM engines. (keep in mind he also put huge injectors on it for no apparent reason, without a fuel regulator) he is an idiot.

I guess I will just make a little braket

Get a '98 RS intake manifold and the problem goes away. It bolts right up, and has the correct mounts for the coil pack. I've got one if you can't find one locally, but in Sacto, I would expect them to be pretty easy to come by, especially with that Subaur/Kia/Suzuki yard in Rancho Cordova...

And what ECU is your car using? The EJ22T one?

Does the 98' RS intake manifold flow air just the same? I wouldn't want to hinder it in anyway if I can help it. It also has a saab IC on it, if that changes anything.

Hey Matt would you happen to know of any links that could help me research this engine? I know it has been used in a lot of cars and varies somewhat between years but I need to get a basic knowledge of it.

I have been googling it all day but to no avail.

As for the ecu I am not sure, it is either the stock ej22t one or the stock ej20g one

The heads and manifold used on the '96-98 Ej25's were basically derivatives of the WRX motors. There is basically no flow difference between them. But they do incorporate design changes, like the wasted spark ignition. That manifold would be a direct bolt on replacement for yours.

As for specs on the engine, I don't have anything quick and dirty. Do you know which Ej20G you have? There were roughly 6-8 different versions of it. If you don't know, get me some pictures of it, and then I can give you an idea of what you are dealing with...
