cat converter?

Post by Euphman06 »

I'm noticing for a few weeks now that when i turn my car on or when im excellerating I hear a metallic rattle coming from the car. The noise is coming from around the mid to the front of the car. Can't really pinpoint where it is coming from. I hoping this is not my cat since I know they are expensive to fix. Any thoughts? This is on a 95 L. THanks for the help!

It's probably just the heat shield rattling. Jack the car up and bang on the exhaust to see where exactly it's coming from.

Heat shield eh? That sounds a lot better then the cat being broken. I dont have any jack to put my car up on. Or the time to do it either, Im moving back to school this weekend. Would a broken cat make the check engine light come on for any reason? I dont know if that light checks the emmisions or not as well as the engine.

No, a bad catalytic converter won't set off the check engine light.

Heh, another person with my problem :D. My problem is the heat shield right about the cat convertor (one small weld broke). You could always take it down the meineke or whatever and see if they'd be willing to just take a look for you.

You have a 95? A bad cat should set the CEL on because you're running two O2 sensors.

Sounds like a heat shield, but...get the codes pulled.

After replacing my stock cat (which was rusted out) with a stromung cat, I noticed this also, so I have to go under my car and get those heat shields a little tighter...

So me too. Another 95 :)

Just fixed mine with metal strapping, the kind with holes for screws as sold for exhaust repair or for hanging plumbing
