I have searched and can't figure it out.
We got this engine off of e-bay it was supposed to be a jdm wrx motor. Well the tag on it says 91 legacy and it doesn't really look like a wrx motor. It is a jdm ej20t with dohc heads the boss is gunna get a later wrx intake and heads (obd2)and he said i can have the intake and dohc heads. are these same as ej20"g" heads? cause i am building a 2.3t right now and have read the 20g's "easier" then using n/a 2.5dohc heads.
anybody know if i lucked out?
what do i have?

If you got them free or cheap I would say you "lucked out"
If you are building the 2.3 right now you might think about some higher compresion pistons, because the "g" heads have a lot of volume.
That is unless you are going to be running a big turbo, with alot of boost.
Also, unless you got the ingnitor you will probobly want to go wasted spark.
They are "easier" because they are already plumbed for the turbo.

It must be an EJ20G. Because the Jdm legacies had it in them and so did the Euro and Ausi legacies.
I'd say use the money you saved on the heads for a larger turbo. napphappy is right they lower the compression considerable.

Let the boss do that. Those heads flow better than a modern WRX. Unless he is getting '97-98 EJ20K heads, you will be better off than he is. They do have HLA's in them, that effectively limit you to around 7200rpm, but some guys go higher with no issues.
Also, make sure you boss uses an early thick Ej20 head gasket. If he uses the current gasket, he will destroy his new heads. It will be an ultra interference motor...

I would think(very dangerous I know) since the RS-RA with swing-arm HLA heads have a 7500 rev limit from the factory, this should be safe for the heads. That is unless STi did something to the valvetrain as well.
Just some food for thought(or debate:))

100% free heads and intake if i want it. but it looks like my 2.2 will fit right on.... almost seems to easy.
I was gunna go with a td04 to start. and once i figure out the FMIC stuff and get some EMS i will go to a vf 23 or some other dull-scroll.
I am also thinkin' about thrown in a 98 forester 4.44 tranny and rear end, she would be hella quick down low!
but thanks guys, i will treat them as 20g heads

you are correct. They didn't change anything on the with respect to the mini-rocker HLA's...napphappy wrote:I would think(very dangerous I know) since the RS-RA with swing-arm HLA heads have a 7500 rev limit from the factory, this should be safe for the heads.
