headlight washer schematic

hi all

well today i just added the additional high pressure pump. however i added the pump to the headlight washer line and not replacing the existing stock one, now i have 2 pumps running. So i have drawn a schematic just in case anyone wants to do the same. It works very well and i'm pleased with it, i had salt from upstate NY snowy roads and when i turn it on, it completly washed it off.

Remember the T split should be at the strut tower above level of the reservoir. You may connect the high pressure pump to the same circuit of the stock pump. Use an Audi, Volkswagen or Mecedes Pump, they are all high pressure pumps. You will need about 8ft of 3/16" hose for this project and also 2 windshield washer sprayers from another subaru.

ahhh.....well I don't have merging ability....so we'll either keep this thread separate, or he can reply to the other thread and I can delete this one.

cool thanks josh,

i got the pump in a JY, make sure that pump has a 3/16 inlet and a 3/16 outlet in order to put it inline

Wait, so now you have 2 pumps, one running it's path to the winshield washer nozzles, and one t'd off of that line and spraying on the headlights?

Do they both turn on at the same time? Are you relying on the OEM washer pump to supply fluid to the aux. headlight pump?

Why not drop the aux. pump's pickup into the washer tank, and have it switched seperately?

Did you try that method? Unless I don't understand the diagram correctly, you are relying on the aux. pump to either A) draw fluid up from the resivoir, then pump it to the headlights. or B) relying on the OEM pump to supply washer fluid to the aux. pump which then re-pumps the fluid to the headlights?

What did you use for nozzles?

I've actually been considering this for some time, but never really cared to actually do it. I may give it a shot now.

I'll do it on the Forester, so I can have 3 washer pumps

yes they do operate at the same time, i havent tried having them in different circuits and the answer to your question is B ( relying on the OEM pump to supply washer fluid to the aux. pump which then re-pumps the fluid to the headlights) I used a impreza/legacy nozzles. the way i have it now with the high pressure pump work very well and it does not draw the pressure from the windshiled nozzles. i'll give a run this winter or untill i sell it and then i'll change it
