The pay may be low but the free stuff rocks!

I'm currently a Senior Product Specialist at Circuit City. I'm the top dog in the Entertainment department. I sell big screens and the high end home audio/home theater equipement. My underlings handle the small tv's, camcorders and people just picking up small HTIB's, dvd players ect.. I'm currently undergoing Management training and should be God fairly soon. Fear me! lol.

Anyhoo, the pay currently is about half of what I'm accustomed to (the wife makes decent money though) but once I become a manager the pay jumps up to a respectable level.

The thing I love though is all the free swag and great deals I get. For instance, we had a national contest for Ccity entertainment departments over Sept and Oct. It was a contest to see who could have top attachments to large TV's (hometheaters, stands, cables, power centers, HTI, service plans ect..) and my department kicked ass both months. We were 1st in our Region both months. This is huge because one, we are a Micro store in BFE PA, and two, we were first out of like 100 stores. We ended up in the top 25 nationally too.

Each month that we won, we got to choose from a list of prizes ranging from cruises to Callaway Golf putters ect.. One of the prices was $200 gift cards. I chose these for both months so I could get something nice for my home......a new PC!!!!! I'm stoked!

I've been on a PentiumII 350 for ever now. No burners but hey, I had an internal zip drive! Wooooohoooo. Thind crashes after a only a minute or two of porn.....totally unacceptable. Hehehe.

The new PC is an HP Media Center, the A1210N. Not the biggest baddest machine out there now by far but for me, it's oh so sweet! Specs are:

AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+ processor, 512MB of DDR SDRAM, 200GB, hard drive, 512KB L2 cache, 2.2GHz processing speed and a 2000MHz front side bus, Double-layer drive: +/-R/RW, CD-R/RW, lightScribe technology, seven USB 2.0, two FireWire, one parallel and two PS/2 ports, 9-in-1 media reader and a PCI express slot! That way I can put in a kickass video card later on. Boy, I'm a happy monkey!

Now I can interface my Mini DV camcorder. I hope to start making videos of the meets we have here out east as well as some of the backroad terror we provide. I'd like to start a production company someday and make professional grade videos for car enthusiasts. *sigh* That'd be sweet. MVP Motorsports representin'!

ANyway, I just wanted to share my good fortune with you all. My car still isn't on the road but at least there are some good things coming my way, so as to keep me sane.

I'm happy they're pusing you up to manager, you deserve it. And it's cool you'll be making good money. Like what kind of bread are you talking? You can send me a message about that if you'd like, I am curious. How long have you been there now? It just goes to show that with a good attitude and good skills a guy can go somewhere in places like Circuit City. That's actually a real success story. Another guy could work there with a crappy attitude and not do half as well as you have.

Thanks Scott. Once I'm done with the training it could still be a little while until I'm placed. I don't really want to relocate the family and would have to wait for an opening here.

Lets just say that the money to start, would be better then I made as a CATV Tech. I'd also be able to move up and once you get into the store manager position you'd be capable of making 6 figures, after bonuses, in the right store.

Heh, you gonna be well-to-do. I need to make more money too. Where I'm at and in the position I'm in, I top out at 49k (not taking cola into account). I'm almost there already. I don't know how much the managers and what not make. Either way, I'll never see that because I'm tiring of the work schedule and the boredom is extreme at times. I'm actually looking into a pharmacy technician job. Hehe, my friend's uncle is a pharmy rep and pulls half a mil in.

Yeah, the range to start for management at Ccity is bewteen 38k-52k depending on the area and/or store around here. It might be more or less in other areas depending apon cost of living ect..

It's salary though, so no O.T. or anything like that. The hours really suck then too. You have to come in and open the store for 3am trucks and crap. Blah.

But I'm just happy to have my new PC!!

Well, I guess no job that pays anything comes without some pain. Heck, a lot of jobs that don't pay a lot bring the pain. Overall, I can't complain. I'm just greedy I guess. I've got to see the PC sometime. It sounds pretty nice.

If you ever get the 64 bit processor up and running, give me a holler. I'd like to see it work. Mine lies dormant still. I'm debating moving over to Gentoo linux just so I can see how the system is supposed to run. I could get devices whose drivers support 64 bit operation but that seems like a pain and I don't know where to start on that.

So congratulations again. I'm happy for you. It always feels good to to see some light at the end of the tunnel.

Sweet! It's great having money and just as nice to be appreciated and respected. I may not like my new job as much as the marina and I work 7 day weeks frequently with some long hours, but I've already been made a project mgr. Some weeks I get more OT than regular pay. I have no time to fix the car, but a new laptop, 2nd car, paid debt, book, etc. makes up for it. At my current pay I'm looking at around 100k. Not bad for a guy making $8.50 at Pep Boys little over a year ago. The respect I get here matters almost more than the money.

The best part of being broke is appreciating it when you start doing well.

Congrats, sounds like a sweet machine, even for an HP.
Those Athlon 64s are pretty quick, no more waiting like with a PII.
