Damn. Won't start.

Post by Binford »

I went to go to lunch today at work, hit the start button on my remote, and it cranked and cranked and cranked. Sweet. Tried it with my key, same thing. Pushed it into the shop and checked all fuses and fusible links, checked for spark, and everything is hooked up and good. Must be fuel problem. I can't hear the pump cycle at all. I checked the wires under the rear seat and everything looks good. Oh, and I also dumped two gallons of gas in becuase it was really low, but the light never came on. I'm gonna let it sit for a bit in the shop and maybe it will thaw out and work, otherwise I'll check into the fuel pump more. I've never had any kind of a problem with the engine before, but this just adds to the other things wrong with this thing that seem to be piling up on me. And I'm so totally poor right now. I'm expecting my Christmas bonus any day now (pretty hefty sum, but most of it is already spent on necesisties to catch up). Gotta go back to work now.

I can sympathize...my SS won't start either...except I have no idea why...

And I am also dirt poor...

I think most of us on the board are poor. We drive roo's because they are cheap and supposed to be reliable.

My $500 Roo is hopped up on about $2500 worth of aftermarket(or newer model) upgrades. Maybe I over-dosed it.

I can sympathise. All this money, effort, etc on what is still a POS old subaru. not very fast or good handling. I wish I would have just sold it before I tied so much money in it. could have built something thats actually fast/cool for what I have in this barge.
ive got electrical probs too!

What wires at the pump should have power? Green/blue has switched 12v. At the connecter under the seat(white plug, pump side) the green wire also has switched 12v, but I don't know where that wire goes, as I don't see it at the pump. Should more wires have power, or does this confirm my pump is dead?

When I parked it this morning, I did this perfect 270* spin in the snow into my parking spot, right next to my supervisors' truck. Now my fuel pump is dead? :???:

Maybe if you would stop treating it like a demo derby car (wal-mart incodent) and the general lee (sliding her around) she might run right.

Those people are trained professionals! Do you not listen when they say, "DO NOT TRY THIS ANYWHERE ANYTIME!"

They had to change it from "do not try this at home" because people would just try it at work....(next to supervisors truck)

Now let this be a lesson to you sonny!!!

Just checked the codes. 22, 23, 45. My normal run of codes. I searched for a wire diagram for the fuel pump, but couldn't find anything.

Well timing belt is still lined up. I wish I had a definate answer whether or not my pump is shot before I take it out. It doesn't look pretty. I sprayed WD-40 all over becuase that's all I found at the shop. BTW, the "shop" I'm working in is a stereo shop, so it's not equipped for mechanical stuff. I wish I had a real shop at home. It's cold outside. Probably getting close to 0* right now.

I did dumb donut shit in the snow last year with my car and it worked perfectly fine. Hell, at some stops with snow on the road...I floored it to get snow on the car behind me

Fuel pressure test. I'm gonna do one on my Legacy this weekend, because I fear I have the same problem...

If you have fuel pressure......pull the coolant temp sensor connector and see if the engine starts.

Can you give me the location? I'll search.

I don't know if I have fuel pressure. My fuel feed hose(fuel filter line) was very tight when I put it on(PITA), and I can't get it off without cutting it(don't wanna)

Hmmm. Can't really get in there without taking a bunch of stuff off, But you know, I see coolant sitting on the block and pass head. I'm pretty low on coolant, too. If I squeeze the upper rad hose, it makes the "gasping of air" sound, just past gurgling. Would that cause it not to start in the cold? I thought it was the other way around. :???:

What's with this?
http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8 ... P_2477.JPG

I unplugged the one in front of the EJ22 stamping-didn't help.(More later) The sensor itself looks very corroded and looks like it's leaking, too, so I'm sure it does need to be replaced. HOWEVER..........

I did remove the fuel line to the filter and I have no fuel pressure.

The normally aspirated engines have the sensor on the opposite side of the coolant crossover.

Just replace your fuel pump already..

Plug the new one in while not in the gas tank and see if it runs. If it doesn't take the fuel pump back and keep looking. Worse comes to worse you run a 12V+ wire from an ignition on only source and run it back to the 12V+ side of the fuel pump.

Maybe a bad ground???

Car may get parted. Or Impreza swap. Can't justify swapping into VW bug or bug based kit car for a daily driver, but if I can hook up with a daily driver and keep all my good parts, next summer would be feirce. :smt077 I'll probably end up driving a '72 F-100 one wheel wonder this winter. Only problem with that is I have to put an engine in it, and the only one I have is probably close to 400 hp(with even more torque), not good for winter driving. I'm sure I can get it together for less than it would cost me to fix everything on my SS right now.

Mine did the same thing a week ago. It was the pump and now i'm just waiting for it to get here. Those lines on the filter are a real PITA, so I just cut them off and got new ones. Fix the Legacy its way more fun. I have to drive around our work van and all i can say is that RWD sucks in the winter when your trying to get going.
