1st - My wagon. Cruise control works for 2-5 minutes than cuts out and wont work again for 20 minutes.
2nd - Wifes sedan. Just up and died.
What do I check?

Any of them manual?
If your wife's is a manual, check that the little rubber plug on top of the clutch pedal hasn't fallen out. That plug presses the button on the cruise safety switch to tell the cruise computer that the clutch is engaged. If that plug is missing, there will be a hole in its place, which will not push the button, which will leave the cruise computer thinking the clutch is never engaged, and therefore the cruise will never work.
All that from a little rubber plug. Yes, been there, done that

Thanks subyluvr2212!
My sister bought a 2001 Legacy GT for a great price. Checked it out for her yesterday so that I could swtich it to synthetic oil (with OEM filter), as well as fix a heating issue, and look at why the cruise wasn't working.
Replaced the thermostat with OEM and it solved problem #1. Checked on the forum and found this post. Checked the car and sure enough the plug was gone! Replaced the plug with a plastic bolt and nut and Voila - problem #2 was resolved.
Gotta love it when a fix is so easy - I would have spent HOURS and HOURS over that one so thanks very much for posting the fix!

I have At that is giving the same problem on the curse control it seem to cut out on hitting ruff area on the roads or just cut out like its lost the vac on the Cruse unit.
I have noted the lines seem lose and the rubber lines seem to be shrunk back and could be leaking .
How can I check this to be sure?

+1. My car's cruise is weird. It will go on and then click off after a couple of seconds -- I have to toggle the button on the dash to get it to engage again. After several tries I can get it to engage for a little while, but it usually clicks off between 5 and 30 minutes later. How does the cruise work in these cars? What should I check?
My dad got his cat and O2 sensors replaced on his 2001 Forester and the cruise doesn't work now -- I will check the rubber plug when I fly home tomorrow for the holidays.
