89 Legacy GT Automatic Problems, Stuck in Front Wheel Drive.

Post by monk »

Hey guys thanks to your forums, Iv learned about what causes this problem, and am assuming with mine it is the clutch packs. Because i do not get 4wd binding and the power light never flashes (So I assume duty C solenoid is fine).

Anyway my single turbo auto 89 legacy, is stuck in Front wheel drive. I have bought another automatic transmission (which i have to remove from the vehicle)

My questions are, do you guys think it wud be easier to simply replace the rear section of my Auto with the new rear section, or wud it be easier to just replace the whole transmission? and is it difficult to remove a transmission? do i require any special tools?

Any feed back wud be much appreciated. and I definiatly believe this is the best Legacy forum site in the world.

It'd probably be easier to remove the rear extension housing.

Removing the automatic trans can be a bit of pain because of its size and weight.

ok, yeah i thort as much. I will be getting some practice removing the box as I have to remove the new one, it part of the condition for the $50 purchase that I remove.

What I will probably do then is remove the new one and take the rear housing off and simply replace that with the faulty one.

I hate the feeling of driving the car in FWD it totally suxs, Ive read many forums where people talk about putting it in FWD, I wud definiatly not recomend doing that at all! it basically makes the car feel crap.
