To those of you out there that use outlook or outlook express to check your mail....STOP!!! (there is a better way...keep reading)

Some of you might or might not know that outlook is a haven for virus' and worms. If you do not have an updated daily virus definitions ant-virus program then you are seriously at risk. These worms will retrieve your saved e-mail address and e-mail itself to all your contacts from your computer. Your contacts will think it's from you and open it.....there the chain continues. I was getting slammed with half a dozen virus' a day!

Go to www.mozilla.com and download Thunderbird. It is very similar to outlook and outlook express except it filters out the junk. It sets up the same way and it is free.

Good call. I'll set this up at work and on my laptop.

Is there an effective way to recall mail using Thunderbird?

My boss tried to e-mail TurboXS last night, and it said it couldn't send because TXS wasn't on the contact list. Then it sent that e-mail to a random person on the contact list. Really annoying. We tried the recall feature in Outlook, but I don't know if it worked correctly.

Thunderbird has an "import wizard". You click import settings..BOOM...DONE!....click import mail...BOOM...DONE!...click import contacts...YOU GUESSED IT....DONE!!

It saves all your contacts, setting, and mail from outlook or outlook express.

It's a godsend!!

You can set up thunderbird to save the e-mail addys in your contact list of all outgoing and incoming mail.

I think this is what you are reffering to.

What about recalling e-mail. Like you send one to the wrong person, and want to un-send it.

It's impossible to "un send" an email that's not confined to a local server, e.g. GroupWise/Exchange company email. I'm unaware of any way to request an email be recalled, especially if it's already been retrieved by the user.

I'm also a T-bird convert with no regrets.

I would assume T-bird does not work with an exchange server like outlook does.

That's the reason I use Outlook. I've got an exchange server setup so I can use Outlook Web Access. I need to upgrade to Exchange 2003....it's got a much nicer OWA interface.

Outlook 2003 > Thunderbird. I have both on my machine, and T-Bird just can't compete. I will say though, that FireFox totally pwnz0rz IE...even IE 7.0....

Outlook was winning the "fill my inbox with spam, virus', and spyware" race. It did that better than limewire.

I have layers of security on my network and machines to protect me but I get tired of having to click on "blah blah blah has detected...."

I'm sure most of you can understand. For you guys that MUST run outlook I will reccomend a program called Spam Butcher.

I've got another solution.....it's called get rid of the spam and crap on the server level ;)

http://www.vamsoft.com/orf/

Even though I have to pay for the software, and the fact they implemented service agreements (i.e. if you want a new version, you can subscribe to the service agreements, or if the current version is working fine, you can choose not to subscribe, yet if you want a later version down the line, you have to pay full price)....anyway....definitely worth it. I get oodles of spam, and my block ratio is probably around 99% or higher with very few, if any false positives.
