What the hell is going on with my car?!

Post by 555BCTurbo »

Ok...here is the scenario...

When I go to start my Legacy, it starts, but idles like crap and runs incredibly rich...rich enough that if I give it gas it smokes blue out the ass!

Now...so far I have replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor, MAF, checked for manifold leaks (of which there are none) and cleaned the air filter out...

I just don't know where to go next with it...I can usually get it to run right after pulling the ECU fuse...sooooo...what would be happening?

Does it run ok after its warmed up? Or will it not even run well enough to warm up?

Do you have access to a laptop? You could try Vikash's scan tool and see what the computer is seeing.

Pull each plug and see if there's one that looks completely black. If so, you've got a sticking injector or possibly dead cylinder/spark plug/ wire.

Make sure your MAF is correctly hooked up.

Hey Josh...I pulled the plugs last week, and one was black, but I compression checked it and it came out 140 on all holes...so I doubt the cylinder is dead...I replaced the spark plugs and wires...so sticking injector?

You can check for a sticking injector ghetto like this.

Turn vehicle off. pull spark plug wire and injector clip of injector. start engine. If the injector "tested" is the stuck injector, the car will run on three cylinders fairly ok.

I'll try that Doug...

If this is the case...is there any way to ghetto revive the injector...like tapping or anything...and then do I need to get a new one or just clean the bad one?

If he pulls the plug wire off, how will the fuel fire? I'm assuming that's what the point was, to see if the injector is sticking open? If you leave the plug on, it shouldn't run any differently.

I'd just go around and start pulling injector connectors while the car is running and see if you find one that affects things different.

You may want to also check the resistance of each injector....just to make sure they are "good"
