Anyone ever had an audio popup before?

This is for non-Subaru related topics. Keep it realistic please.

Anyone ever had an audio popup before?

Post by entirelyturbo »

Well, I just did... about 30 seconds ago...

I'm just sitting here surfing, listening to Duran Duran, when all of a sudden I hear some dude talking to me trying to sell me a steam cleaner.

I closed my browser, he kept talking. I closed Media Player, he kept talking. I closed every window I had open, and he still wouldn't shut up. There was no popup on my screen, my computer wasn't doing anything weird, nothing. I didn't have AIM on (as they frequently have audio ads), nothing.

About 10 seconds after I closed all my windows, he got cut off and hasn't come back on since.

I mean, I know I have spyware on my comp (it's crafty enough that SpyBot, AdAware, and HiJack can't fix it), but geez!!

That's lame. I've never had an audio popup that wasn't contained in a window.

Yeah, and you haven't been able to use a lot of software now have you?

Try Microsoft's SpyWare remover..it's excellent.

My mom is trading me her Power Mac G4 for a PC I built. She hates mac with a passion. The mac is worth way more then my PC.

If a Mac can use MP3's and JPG's, and I can view Internet pages the same way (even though the browser might be different) then I don't care about anything else.

Its a good piece of spyware in itself

besides AIM, i've only had one other instance of audio ads...on yahoo mail, the banner up top sometimes makes a noise if your cursor hovers over it (like the nextel ad rings).

And AIM is f'in annoying, they advertise up the ass, and make you pay for any extra features

My cable company gives all it's members free anit-spyware, anti-virus, pop-up blocker, ad-blocker and firewall.

It does very well. I don't even have to upgrade it as it does that by itself too.

I have all the software I had with my PC and then some, but it didn't matter what I had on the PC - it never worked! Even the applications in Office that I used had errors that wouldn't allow certain features and no amount of reloading or drive formatting would fix it. Then there was the regular 'missing' drivers so I lost my hardware one by one, the pop ups, the viruses, the adware, etc.

Everything was a fight with the PC and even bringing it to the computer geeks was a chore as it usually took them a while just to get it to work (and marginally). The Mac came Fed-Ex, I opened the box and turned it on. It was charged, worked, and setting it up took mere minutes and didn't give me any kind of error or freeze-up. I bought the cheapest ibook they had.

The only thing I hate about the Mac is the lack of a right mouse button.

Macs would be alright if their ergonomics didn't suck and they weren't so HOMO looking!!!

I fatigue much faster using a Mac than I do a PC

Ergonomics?! It's the same keyboard pattern and mouse pad setup. Fatigue? What are you doing with the thing? Are you talking desk top, 'cause the only difference between this and my non-functioning Dell laptop is a couple button functions and the lack of a right mouse button. The homo comment must be directed to the desk top, too, but I guess you look like a big macho man when you're swearing at your useless PC when it crashes, freezes, or all the extra protective software you had to buy fails to protect the poorly-written programs from the bombardment of viruses, adware, etc. while using a computer that works allows you to be happy ... homo - an abbreviation of homosexual, also referred to as gay, which also means happy ... I see where you that would come in.

ergonomics on some of them do suck, the mouse is round shaped and too small...most are okay though.

See, you're talking desk top, which I'll have to agree. With laptops for ~$1000 I don't see the point. I'm divided on the desktops as form < function. They're a hell of a lot more reliable (better function), but then there's the goofy designs which makes them less functional than a PC.

Hahahahaha Steve. You crack me up dude. Talk about no mercy!!

If wanting something to work right when I spend over one thousand dollars on it is gay, then I'm queer as a three-dollar-bill...

I'm thinking about a Mac more and more now...

This is where I put my PC's keyboard down and walk away. (from this thread)

If it wasn't for HP I would be broke as fuck and nobody on my list would be having a good christmas.

Thanks HP!!! Merry Christmas!!

(I would rather FDISK my PC then buy a Mac)

I don't yell and scream at my PC...I throw it out the window

But seriously, PC's work well if you don't mess with them. As we programmers always say, the worst thing that happened to the computer was the user.

All problems developed independently. Even instaling software never worked. Couldn't load Acrobat! Drivers dropped on their own. All I do with it is keep a couple spreadsheets in Excel and write with Word. For internet, I research for my books and write on here (no porn and shit where I'd be likely to pick up a computer VD). Occasionally I burned a couple CDs (before those drivers went away and reloading would only work for a day or so) or try to load pics from my camera w/ the USB ... before that stopped being recognized also. Reformatting and loading all the software would only result in me losing years off my life and trouble getting the internet to work. As I said, even the experts were baffled. I'm not computer illiterate so when there's a problem I can't figure out, it's bad and weird.

I thought Macs were goofy until I nearly smashed my PC with a hammer last Oct (I didn't because I needed stuff off the HDD) and asked myself why the F am I putting up with this shit?! I'm not making $30k anymore. You guys are like Domestic fanatics defending the new Monte Carlo. To paraphrase Winston Wolf in Pulp Fiction, "Gentlemen, get out of the dark ages". The problems my sister's had with her two PCs are even worse than mine and she does about the same amount of easy stuff as I do, maybe less.

Steve must have had Windows ME (millenium eddition) LOL

That was a complete waste of consumers time and money. I am looking forward to the release of Longhorn.

I'm sorry Bill Gates rubbed you raw Steve. To each their own. We just want you to be happy with your personal confuser.

yeah, ME was a horrible failure even by Window's standards. It had less drivers that 98, and crashed more often than 95.
