Anyone ever owned a turbo volvo?

Post by subawhatsubawho »

I have the chance to pick up a Volvo 940 turbo wagon from a tow yard down the street for $200.00 They haven't done anything to it or know anything about it, I popped the hood and it all appears to be there. I didn't try starting as I was pressed for time.

Should I have a go at it?

940's are pretty good cars. Ive only ever driven a 960. very luxury car feeling, solid as hell. do you know what all is wrong with it? parts are expensive as hell for 900 series.

Old small blocks are pretty cheap, though.

I like Volvos, but I'm more partial to the 240s. 900s are easier to fit V8s in. The new T5 AWD S40s are tempting me with more power for the Mazda. Bastards.

My friend has a 740 intercooled. It goes like hell, but it's got rear bearing issues. For 200, I don't see why not. It can be an AutoX'er

Yeah this one has a FMIC too. That sucker is pretty big.

I might have to pick it up. I'm going to hope it won't need a new engine as I would rather swap roo engines then volvo engines. Although there is a ton of room under the hood.

I think it had wood paneling on it at one time because it now is covered in some brown goo like substance. My guess is adhesive.

I see a few cans of primer in it's future...

I think I am going to buy it.

Wish me luck!!

They have large fmic's but i dont see the plastic end tanks holding too much boost, or the rubber hoses.

Those I/C's hold up to about 20 psi...my friend had one in his TurboFord...and he blew the tanks off it with a T3.

yeah its $200, get it. worst case scenario you sell a few parts off it and make the money right back.
