Turbo Muffler

Post by The Scooby »

does anyone out there have a turbo muffler on their turbo car, sorry let me clarify, like an aftermarket Thrush Turbo muffler, or any other cheaper turbo muffler on their car, if you do can you post a sound clip or something.

im thinking of putting a 2.5inch cat-back with 2 resinators on my 92SS and i dont want it to be too loud, just a tad louder then stock.

Thanks,
Shean

I had one on one of my turbos, it was kinda quiet, but louder than stock.

The Borla silencer is v. loud.

The Vibrant with two 2-inch out pipes completes the best sounding
exhaust i've ever had. :D

It's kinda funny...Turbo mufflers are not good for turbo cars...

The turbo muffler is pretty restrictive with lots of baffles...and turbocharged motors like to breathe...so turbo muffler no good on turbo car...

I would recommend a Magnaflow...they sound great and are Straight Through

Even "straight through" mufflers produce lots of restriction due to turbulence.

But they are better than baffled designs, for sure.

Did you try searching? There might be sound clips posted.

I know that I posted a sound clip in my exhaust thread (of movie of me rallying) although maybe it's not the exact system you are looking for.

I have a TurboXS system, a 3" TBE and Cat going into a 2.5" aftermarket muffler (magnaflow I think?) with no resonators and it's not loud at all.

Sam's car sounds really nice. And yea, that's the Magnaflow muffler. The "stealthback" exhaust is what that thing is coded. Looks kinda stock. Sounds fairly stock. +1 Performance.

Jason - FTW?

I definately approve of straight pipes though. They sound gangster.

i just want an axel back exhaust right now, in 2.5inch, then later if i want i will do full TBE. but at my work we have a magnaflow muffler on a 2.5rs we built, i hate the sound, sounds more like a honda then a subaru. its a oval muffler with dual 3inch tips i belive.

Subtle, do you have any pictures/sound clips of that muffler your talking about, the Vibrant?

You hate the sound because it was on an N/A. Turbo's and N/A's are very different.

My boss hasa TurboXS Stealthback (3" pipes to a 2.5" axleback). His wife's car (2.5RS) has the same axleback. Hers has stock pipes to it with 2 cats. Boss has no cats on his WRX. Her car is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than his.

It's probably because of the equal lengthiness of the headers, and the fact that there is no sound-killing turbo in the exhaust stream.

Yeah, equal length headers make a boxer engine sound like a inline engine
